Colby College's Benard Kibet, a member of the men's cross country and track & field teams, was active in both the Colby community and his villiage in his native Kenya.
Kibet is from a rural village northwest of Nairobi. His academic success allowed him to earn a scholarship to attend a private boarding school during his high school years. He was accepted to Colby by the Kenya Scholar-Athlete Project (KenSAP).
KenSAP picked the right scholar in Kibet. His goal was to give back to his village and he achieved that through several projects. He built a new kindergarten classroom and was able to bring water closer to the village. He earned a $10,000 grant for funding from the Davis United World College Scholars Program's Projects for Peace initiative.
Kibet earned Colby's Norman White Award for inspirational leadership and sportsmanship at the senior athletics awards ceremony.
Colby produced a short film "Maji" to document Kibet's efforts of bringing water to his village.
