Meet Hannah Johnson - Bates Alpine Skiing

Senior alpine skiing captain Hannah Johnson (Incline Village, Nev.) majored in politics at Bates, with two general education concentrations in considering Africa and German language. A Phi Beta Kappa Society member, Johnson earned the Lindholm Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average among varsity letterwinning athletes in the class of 2018.
Her senior thesis was a cross-national comparison case study examining the link between ethnic conflict and neopatrimonialism in Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria. While at Bates, she studied abroad in Windhoek, Namibia, where Johnson researched the legacies of apartheid with regards to urbanization patterns and spatial distribution of water consumption in Windhoek.
A USCSA National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team member and a three-time NESCAC All-Academic selection, Johnson turned in a great year on the slopes for Bates in 2018. She finished a career-best 11th out of 70 competitors in the slalom at the Colby Carnival and a career-best 12th out of 62 women in the giant slalom at the Williams Carnival. She placed 28th in the EISA circuit on the NCAA Qualifier List.
