2010 Cross Country Performers of the Week

Michael Schmidt, Middlebury
(Junior - Wilmette, Ill.)
Schmidt came in first at the NCAA New England Regional on Saturday at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass. His time of 25:40.1 over the 8-kilometer course was just over four seconds faster than the field of 333 racers. The Panthers took fourth among the 49-team field and earned a spot in the NCAA championship.
   

Jennifer Gossels, Williams
(Sophomore - Sudbury, Mass.)
Gossels, the 2010 NESCAC Most Outstanding Performer following the conference championship meet in October, won the NCAA New England Regional race on Saturday at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown. Gossels covered the 6-kilometer course in a course-record time of 21:42.

Coby Horowitz, Bowdoin
(Freshman - Stow, Mass.)
Horowitz led the Polar Bears to the Maine State Championship on Saturday, as he won the 8-kilometer race in a time of 25:43.06. Bowdoin finished first out of 10 teams at the meet with a score of 23 points.
   

Colette Whitney, Middlebury
(First Year - Hugh Bridge, N.J.)
Whitney came in ninth out of 145 racers at the University of Albany Invitational as she finished the 5-kilometer course in a time of 18:15.6. The Panthers placed second out of 22 teams at the predominately Division I meet.

Will Yochum, Amherst
(Senior - Goleta, Calif.)
Yochum placed eighth out of 318 runners at the Open New England Championships on Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., His time of 24:41 over the 8-kilometer course proved to be the best among all Division III participants. Amherst finished 21st out of 47 teams.
   

Annie Dear, Williams
(Sophomore - Olympia, Wash.)
Dear was the top NESCAC runner at the Open New England Championships on Saturday in Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., as she completed the 5-kilometer course in 17:57, one second ahead of teammate Jennifer Gossels. Williams finished sixth among the 47 participating teams.

Schmidt won the Purple Valley Invitational hosted by Williams at Mt. Greylock High School on Saturday. He completed the 8-kilometer course in 26:00. Middlebury finished fifth out of the 18 participating teams.
   

Jennifer Gossels, Williams
(Sophomore - Sudbury, Mass.)
Gossels took individual honors at the Purple Valley Invitational, which was hosted by her Eph squad at Mt. Greylock High School. Gossels finished the 6-kilometer course in 22:17, as Williams finished second among the 19-team field.

Will Yochum, Amherst
(Senior - Goleta, Calif.)
Yochum was the top finisher at the UMass Amherst Invitational on Saturday, clocking a performance of 25:12 for the 8-kilometer course. The Lord Jeffs came in fifth overall at the five-team meet.
   

Bridget Tevnan, Trinity
(First Year - Boscawen, N.H.)
Tevnan placed fifth overall at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational as she covered the 5-kilometer course in 18:08. The Bantams finished an impressive fourth overall among 39 squads.

Peter Kosgei, Hamilton
(Senior - Kapsabet, Kenya)
Kosgei came away with individual honors by winning the Hamilton Short Course Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as he completed the 6-kilometer course in 18:50. The Continentals placed first at the five-team meet.
   

Christina Wong, Amherst
(Senior - Honolulu, Hawaii)
Wong won the 5-kilometer Amherst Invitational over the weekend in a time of 20:13.9, as she helped her Jeff squad to a first place showing among the four teams.
