Middlebury Women, Tufts Men Win 2003 Cross Country Championship

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Middlebury women captured their fifth NESCAC Championship in the last six years, while the Tufts men won their first-ever NESCAC title. The races were held on the campus of Middlebury College in Vermont.

Middlebury’s balanced squad placed runners in 4th, 8th, 13th, 14th and 16th to capture the title. Tufts was strong at the top, placing the 7th through 10th runners as well as the 14th-place finisher.

Winning the women’s race was Shauneed Garrahan of Amherst with a time of 18:13. Placing second was Courtney Quirin of Wesleyan in 18:15, followed by Carter Hamil of Amherst in third (18:16), Middlebury’s Jessica Manzer in fourth (18:25) and Aly Venti of Amherst in fifth (18:38).

The men’s champion on the afternoon was Neal Holtschulte of Williams, who came in with a time of 26:18. Placing second was teammate Matt Winkler in 26:26, followed by Michael Page of Amherst in third (26:36), Connecticut College’s Adam Fitzgerald in fourth (26:44) and Nat Brown of Colby in fifth (26:48).
