Nine Women's Tennis Players Recognized by ITA as All-America
HADLEY, Mass. - Nine NESCAC women's tennis players claimed Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America honors on Monday. Five individuals were honored for singles play, while three doubles teams garnered All-America recognition.
Honored for singles play were Amherst junior Brittany Berckes, Bowdoin senior Sarah D'Elia, Middlebury first year Victoria Aiello, Tufts sophomore Julia Browne, and Williams junior Grace Baljon.
At doubles, Berckes joined sophomore teammate Natasha Brown from Amherst along with Browne and junior Meghan McCooey from Tufts and Cary Gibson and sophomore Nicole Reich from Williams.
Baljon, Gibson and Reich were part of an Ephs squad that won a second consecutive NCAA title on May 21 in Lawrenceville, Ga., downing fellow NESCAC squad Amherst by a 5-2 score.
Tufts' Brown came away with NESCAC Player of the Year honors in 2009, while Aiello of Middlebury was selected ad the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. All nine individuals earned All-NESCAC honors this season.
