AMHERST, Mass. - The Amherst College and Williams College women's tennis teams were named conference co-champions at the conclusion of the NESCAC Championship Tournament, held at Amherst Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The two teams each amassed 27 points for a share of the crown as the Jeffs claimed the NESCAC title for the first time in school history, while Williams won the conference for the fourth straight year. Amherst was led by sophomore Kristen Raverta (W. Springfield, MA), who took home the "A" Flight singles title, while seniors Stephanie Hall (Lawrenceville, NJ) and Kate Troy (Wauwautosa, WI) led the Ephs' charge, winning the "A" Flight doubles championship.
Raverta's singles performance was outstanding all weekend as she entered the tournament unseeded, but after a first-round bye she advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Wesleyan University junior Tiffany Lo (Houston, TX). There, she upset top-seeded Hall 1-6, 6-1, 10-7, and went on to take the crown with a lopsided 6-2, 6-0 win over second-seeded Trinity College senior Diana Goldman (Milton, MA). Raverta also teamed with senior captain Wallis Molchen (Wilmington, DE) to earn the "B" Flight doubles championship with an 8-3 victory over sophomore Alex Maclennan (Los Angeles, CA) and senior Julie Mallory (Littleton, CO) of Williams. Amherst first-year Katie Hudson (Los Altos, CA) took home a singles title as well, winning the "C" Flight 6-4, 6-4 over Bowdoin College senior Sanida Kikic (Dallas, TX).
Maclennan won the "B" Flight singles crown with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Troy, while Tufts University junior Trina Spear (Miami, FL) took the "D" Flight championship 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 over Middlebury College first-year Emily Holick (Sudbury, MA).
Hall and Troy earned their doubles crown with a 8-6 win over the Tufts team of junior Jennifer Lejb (Katonah, NY) and first-year Jennifer Luten (Clayton, MO), and Paulette Hricko and Julia Shaver of Bowdoin downed the Trinity pair of Goldman and sophomore Melissa White (Westwood, MA) 9-8 (7-3) to claim the "C" Flight championship.
