Williams Wins 2003 Women's Tennis Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Williams College came out on top in the NESCAC Women's Tennis Championship for the third consecutive year edging second-place finishers Amherst College and Tufts University by a score of 31-25.

Williams junior Stephanie Hall led the way for the Ephs winning the A Flight singles draw and earning NESCAC co-Player of the Year honors. Sara Hughes of Colby, who fell in the semifinals of the A Flight singles draw, shared the honor with Hall.

Williams had a two-point advantage over Amherst and a four-point lead over Tufts heading into the final day of the tournament. All three teams scored two points in the morning with Hall winning the A Flight, 6-3, 6-1; Tristan Hedrick winning the B Flight for Amherst, 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 6-3; and Iffy Saeed winning the C Flight for Tufts, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

In the afternoon's action, Jennifer Lejb and Katie Nordstrom won the #1 Doubles draw for Tufts, 8-4. Williams took both the #2 Doubles and #3 Doubles, however, to clinch the NESCAC crown. Tracy Cheung and Julie Mallory won at #2, 9-8 (7-3); Brittany Binet and Alex Maclennan took the #3 match 8-5.
