2010 Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week

Julia Schreiber, Williams
(Junior, Goalkeeper - Cockeysville, Md.)
Schreiber anchored the Ephs during their 2010 NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship run over the weekend, as she posted a .650 save percentage and a 7.00 goals against average. On Saturday in an 11-10 victory over top-seeded Trinity, Schreiber made 14 saves, recording seven stops while allowing three goals. Sunday, Schreiber and the Williams defense shut out defending champ Colby in the second half as she recorded 12 saves in a 9-4 victory. She saved .824 percent of the shots she faced in the second half over the two games (14-for-17).

Allie Horwitz, Amherst
(Sophomore, Attacker - Woodbridge, Conn.)
Horwitz accounted for both game-winners in a 2-0 week for the Jeffs, as she tallied six times overall last week. In a 5-4 win on Friday over Trinity to cap the regular season, Horwitz had an assist before breaking a 4-4 tie with 5:39 to play with a free-position goal. She followed on Sunday by netting four goals on six shots in her team’s 11-9 victory over Tufts.

Lily Nguyen, Middlebury
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Oakland, Calif.)
Nguyen played a critical role in the Panthers’ 13-9 win over Tufts on Saturday, making 14 saves for a .609 save percentage. She recorded some big saves during a key stretch in the second half, as Middlebury held the team with the highest scoring average in the conference to five goals below their season average. Nguyen currently leads the NESCAC in save percentage at .527.

Rachel Romanowsky, Trinity
(Junior, Midfielder - Hampstead, N.H.)
Romanowsky recorded five goals, five assists, four draw controls and two caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Bantams. At Springfield on Thursday, Romanowsky had two goals and four assists in an 11-9 win. She followed on Saturday with a team-high three tallies along with an assist in a 12-8 victory against Middlebury, Trinity’s first win over the Panthers since 1989, a stretch of 19 games.

Dana Heritage, Middlebury
(Senior, Attacker - Cheshire, Conn.)
Heritage factored into half of the Panthers’ 18 goals in an 18-7 decision at Bowdoin on Saturday, scoring four while assisting on five others. Her four goals came on seven shots in the game. Heritage also earned three draw controls. Through eight games, Heritage has 21 goals and seven assists for 28 points, an average of 3.50 points per game that is sixth among conference players.

Sarah Warnke, Colby
(Junior, Goaltender - Lakeville, Conn.)
Warnke recorded 14 saves (.583 save percentage), with eight stops occurring in the second half and in overtime, in an 11-10 win at Middlebury on Saturday afternoon in the Mules’ lone game last week. She also scooped up seven ground balls and had a draw control. The victory was the 30th of her career at Colby, as she is now 30-6 over three seasons.

Katie Stewart, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, Midfielder - Chevy Chase, Md.)
Stewart had six goals, an assist, nine draw controls and five caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Polar Bears. On Tuesday, Stewart sparked an 11-0 run for Bowdoin in a 16-7 win over Wheaton with three goals, adding eight draw controls and two caused turnovers. She followed on Saturday in an 11-3 win over Amherst by leading all scorers with three more goals and an assist along with three caused turnovers.
   

Margaret Souther, Middlebury
(First Year, Attacker - Scarsdale, N.Y.)
Souther collected eight goals and an assist along with three ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers during a 3-0 week for the Panthers. She started off the week on Tuesday with two goals in a 10-8 win at Gettysburg, then had three goals and an assist in an 11-10 win over Buffalo St. on Friday. Souther tallied three more times in Saturday’s 14-6 win over Connecticut College. For the week, Souther also went 3-for-3 on free position shots.

Amy Campbell, Colby
(Senior, Attacker - North Andover, Mass.)
Campbell had 13 goals and an assist during a 3-0 week for the Mules, scoring her 100th career goal in an 11-9, come-from-behind win at Tufts on Saturday. She finished the game against the Jumbos with four goals and an assist. Earlier in the week, Campbell had six goals in a 21-4 win against Southern Maine on Tuesday and three goals in a 15-7 decision against the Univ. of New England on Thursday. She leads the 4-0 Mules in scoring with 15 goals and two assists.

Kelley Trapp, Amherst
(Junior, Midfielder - Monterey, Calif.)
Trapp had a hand in Amherst’s first seven goals and finished with eight points overall with two goals and six assists in an 11-8 win at Tufts on Saturday afternoon. Trapp helped out on five consecutive goals for the Jeffs before scoring her team’s sixth to give Amherst a 6-3 lead heading into the half. She opened the scoring for her squad in the second and later added an assist as part of a four-goal effort over a 10-minute span in the half.
