Middlebury Storms to 14-5 Win Over Gettysburg in NCAA Women's Lacrosse Regional

CLINTON, N.Y. - Lindsay McBride came off the bench to score four goals and add one assist as Middlebury College defeated Gettysburg, 14-5, in an NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament regional semifinal at Hamilton College's Campus Road Athletic Field Saturday afternoon.

Katherine Entwisle scored three goals for Middlebury (12-4 overall). Mimi Schatz '08 and Chase Delano each scored two goals and added two assists. Sally Ryan scored two goals and assisted on another. Ryan also collected three draw controls. Reid Berrien posted a game-high four draw controls. Taryn Petrelli scooped up three ground balls, collected two draw controls and caused two turnovers. Blair Bowie made four of her five saves in the first half and picked up a total of five ground balls.

Krissy Browning scored two goals for Gettysburg (17-4 overall). Katie Ceglarski registered two assists and two draw controls. Callie Gates scored a goal, picked up three ground balls and caused a game-high three turnovers. Sam Pyzik corralled five ground balls. Megan Moore scored a goal and posted two draw controls. Nicole Ditillo contributed two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Kristen Krammer made eight saves.

Middlebury opened the scoring with two consecutive goals early in the first half. Schatz scored exactly three minutes into the game on Ryan's assist. McBride found the back of the net just 1 minute, 21 seconds later with an unassisted goal.

Gettysburg responded with a pair of goals of its own. Browning scored off a Ceglarski assist with 22:42 remaining in the first half, followed by an unassisted goal by Moore with 15:33 left.

The Panthers answered with four straight goals for a 6-2 lead. Hilary Walker started the rally on a goal with 12:58 to play in the half. Ryan finished it on a goal with 1:39 left.

The Bullets made it 6-3 with just 52 seconds remaining in the half when Hollis Stahl finished off a Ceglarski assist. Gettysburg cut its deficit to two on a goal by Browning to open the second half, but the Bullets did not come any closer. Middlebury scored the next eight goals to put the game away. A late Gettysburg goal provided the final margin.

Middlebury is making its 15th appearance in the NCAA Division III championships. The Panthers have advanced to the national semifinals each of the previous 14 trips. Middlebury and Hamilton College meet at Campus Road Athletic Field on May 11 at 1 p.m. for a trip to the national semis in Salem, Va. The two teams have never played. Earlier Saturday, Hamilton moved on in the tournament with a 13-6 win against Colby College.
