2004 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams Announced

Amherst's Harmeling Named Player of the Year

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior attacker Ashley Harmeling of Amherst was named the 2004 NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year in a vote of the conference coaches. Harmeling led the conference in points (6.44 per game), goals (3.94 per game) and assists (2.50 per game) while helping the Jeffs reach the NESCAC Championship game and a earn a berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Harmeling, named NESCAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year at the conclusion of the fall season, ranks fifth nationally in points per game and has tied the single-season school record for points as the Jeffs enter NCAA play.

Joining Harmeling on the all-conference first team are seniors Allison Aldrich and Liz Martin. Martin, a three-time first-team all-conference honoree, has scored 52 goals from her midfield position for the Jeffs while Aldrich, a second-team selection the past two seasons, has found the net on 42 occasions as an attacker. The three have combined to lead Amherst to a 14-2 mark as they enter the NCAA tournament to defend their national title.

Four-time NESCAC champion Middlebury placed three members on the first team. Three-time first team selection Nuala O’Donohoe leads the undefeated top-ranked Panthers with 53 goals on the year. O’Donohoe, the 2001 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, has joined with fellow first team honoree Elizabeth Renehan, last season’s Rookie of the Year, to lead the Middlebury to an undefeated regular season and fourth consecutive NESCAC Championship. Renehan has contributed 29 goals and 18 assists to the 2004 campaign. Middlebury senior defender Becca Brakeley anchors a Panther defense which leads the nation in scoring defense for the second consecutive season surrendering just 5.33 goals per game. Panthers head coach Missy Foote earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors for the fourth consecutive season.

Williams’ Molly Jennings earned first team honors for the third consecutive year. Jennings scored 50 goals this season to lead the Ephs as a midfielder. Williams senior defender Lindsay Holland was also honored on the first team. Williams freshman Kaylan Tildsley earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors after scoring 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists) this season for the Ephs this season. Tildsley was also a second-team all-conference selection.

Bowdoin goalkeeper Kendall Cox is one of three Polar Bears selected to the first team all-conference. Cox finished her junior year with 160 saves and a 7.61 goals against average. Bowdoin senior midfielder Angela King and sophomore defender Betsy Rose also earned first team accolades.

Wesleyan junior attacker Rebecca Vogel rounds out the first team selections. Vogel led the Cardinals with 46 goals on the year and finished fifth in the league averaging 4.00 points per game. NESCAC all-conference selections are determined in a vote by the conference coaches.
