2002 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams Announced
Bergofsky of Middlebury
Selected as Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior midfielder Julia Bergofsky of NESCAC champion Middlebury College was named the 2002 NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. Bergofsky, a repeat first-team selection, leads the Panthers in scoring with 42 goals and 18 assists for 60 points entering the NCAA Division III tournament.
Four other players from Middlebury received first-team recognition, including junior attack Char Glessner, who was named to the first team for the second consecutive year. She is second on the team in scoring. Sophomore midfielder Nuala O’Donohue, the third-leading scorer on the team, was named to the first team after earning NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors last year.
Senior defender Ali Connolly, who leads the team in ground ball pickups and caused turnovers, and sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Grenert received first-team honors. Grenert leads the conference with a 5.73 goals against average and .667 save percentage.
Three players from NESCAC runner-up Amherst were named to the first team. Junior attack Abby Ouimet leads the conference in scoring with 36 goals and 38 assists for 74 points entering the NCAA tournament. Sophomore midfielder Liz Martin leads the Jeffs with 47 goals, while senior defender Cara Coscarelli is the team’s top defender.
Senior midfielder Heather Black of Williams was named to the first team for the second consecutive year after leading the Ephs with 27 goals and 28 assists for 55 points. Sophomore attack Molly Jennings and junior defender Kathryn Doherty of Williams also received first-team honors. Jennings scored 25 goals and added 12 assists, while Doherty finished second on the team in scoring with 25 goals and 42 points.
Rounding out the first team was senior attack Marcia Ingraham of Colby, who was one of the top scorers in the conference throughout the season.
First-year attack Bea Gratry, who earned second-team all-conference accolades, was named the 2002 NESCAC Rookie of the Year after leading the conference with 55 goals. Middlebury Head Coach Missy Foote was named the 2002 NESCAC Coach of the Year.
