HARTFORD, Conn. – Regular season play concluded today and the pairings are set for the first round of the NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship tournament to be contested Sunday.
Amherst (7-1 conference, 10-1 overall) earned the second seed and will host seventh-seeded Trinity (3-6, 8-6) at 11 a.m. Amherst defeated the Bantams 15-2 in early April. Williams (6-3, 8-3) is seeded third and plays at home against sixth-seeded Bates (3-6, 7-6) at 1 p.m., trying to avenge a 12-10 loss to the Bobcats early in the season. Fourth-seeded Colby (6-3, 9-3) plays host to fifth-seeded Bowdoin (5-4, 10-4) at 11 a.m. Colby defeated the Polar Bears 14-8 on April 17.
Defending conference and national champion Middlebury, which posted a 9-0 record in conference play, earned the top seed for the tournament. The three first-round winners will join Middlebury in the conference tournament semifinals. The Panthers will host the semifinals on Saturday, May 4 and will host the championship game on Sunday, May 5.
The top seven teams in regular season conference play qualify for the NESCAC championship tournament. The top-seeded team earns a first-round bye and hosts the semifinal and final rounds, while the other six teams compete in first-round action with the next three top teams hosting first round contests. The top seed faces the lowest remaining seed in one semifinal and the other two first round winners face off in the other semifinal.
