Colby Upends Hamilton 5-3 in Women's Ice Hockey First Round

CLINTON, N.Y. - In NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinal action Saturday afternoon, the Colby College White Mules (9-13-1) women’s hockey team defeated the Hamilton College Continentals (13-10-0), 5-3. Colby advances to the NESCAC semifinals which will be held next weekend at Bowdoin College.

Colby came out hot scoring two goals in the first period, both by Jill Young (Edina, MA) to race out to the early lead. Hamilton cut the deficit to one on a Paula Dady’s (Wallingford, CT) power play goal. Colby answered back on a goal by Heather DeVito (Arlington, MA) to close the second period at 3-1.

Hamilton came out on fire in the final period, netting two goals within 29 seconds of each other to tie the game with 16 minutes of action remaining. The next 10 minutes were dominated by superior goaltending by both squads. Both Lynn Hasday (Rockville Centre, NY) of Colby and Jen Kroleski (New Rochelle, NY) made multiple point blank saves to keep the game knotted at 3-3.

Colby netted two top shelf goals about a minute apart to close the scoring, giving the White Mules an impressive 5-3 victory. Colby advances to face the winner of Amherst and Middlebury in the semi-finals.

Young tallied four points on two goals and two assists to lead the White Mules, while both DeVito and Anna Morro (Chicago, IL) had three points. Hasday saved 32 of the 35 Continental shots that she saw.

In her final collegiate game, Dady score two of Hamilton’s goals. Eden Self (Rochester, NY) knotched Hamilton’s other goal. Kroleski made 20 saves in her last appearance in Sage Rink.
