NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey All-Conference Teams Released

Wasserman of Williams Named Player of the Year

HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore forward Molly Wasserman of Williams was named the 2001-02 NESCAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Year. Wasserman leads the conference with 32 goals and 48 points. She leads the NESCAC in power play and short-handed goals and scored or assisted on 48 percent of the Ephs’ goals during the regular season.

Junior forwards Shelly Chessie of Bowdoin and Amber Neil of Middlebury were each named to the all-conference first team. Chessie is second in the conference in scoring with 21 goals, a league-leading 26 assists, and 47 points. During the regular season, she led the team with a plus-minus of +42. Neil leads top-seeded Middlebury in scoring with 18 goals and 15 assists for 33 points. She has scored three game-winning goals and six power play goals.

Joining Neil on the first team was teammate Catherine Elkins, a senior defensewoman who averaged more than one point per game in league contests. Sophomore goaltender Mimi MacKinnon of Trinity was named to the first team after posting a 3.54 goals against average with a .912 save percentage.

First-year defensewoman Kirsti Anderson of Bowdoin was named the 2001-02 NESCAC Women’s Hockey Rookie of the Year and was also named to the all-conference first team. She has scored 11 goals and added 18 assists for 29 points.

Michele Amidon of Bowdoin was named the NESCAC Women’s Hockey Coach of the Year after leading the Polar Bears to a 13-2-1 league mark and a spot in this weekend’s NESCAC Women’s Hockey Championship semifinals.
