2011-12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Marcia Voigt, Amherst
(Junior, Guard - Skillman, N.J.)
Voigt led the Lord Jeffs to their third consecutive NESCAC Women’s Basketball title this past weekend, averaging 15.0 points on 12-of-19 shooting (.632) in 24.5 minutes off the bench. In Saturday’s semifinals against Colby, Voigt had 17 points, 14 coming in the first half, as Amherst built an insurmountable lead in an eventual 66-52 victory. She followed on Sunday during the title game versus Tufts with 13 points, scoring eight-straight points during a game-changing 14-0 run during the second half as Amherst went on to win 65-39. Voigt also chipped in 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over the two-game set.

Rachael Mack, Colby
(Senior, Forward - Augusta, Maine)
Mack came up big for the Mules when they needed it most on Saturday, as she scored 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in a 61-59 victory over Williams in the NESCAC quarterfinals. Seven of her 10 rebounds came in the final 9:08 against the Ephs, as she helped lead Colby’s successful comeback bid. In a 1-1 overall week, Mack averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. She made 12-of-25 from the floor (.480).

Megan Robertson, Amherst
(First Year, Forward - Tewksbury, Mass.)
Robertson averaged 18.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks in just 21.0 minutes per game off the bench during the Lord Jeffs’ 2-0 week. She made 16-of-23 shots from the floor (.696) and 5-of-6 (.833) from the line. In Friday’s 77-55 win over Williams, Robertson had 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting (.727) and a career-high 17 rebounds, nine on the defensive glass. She added 16 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season in Saturday’s 80-50 decision against Middlebury, as Amherst finished unbeaten in NESCAC play.

Jill Henrikson, Bowdoin
(Senior, Guard - Bath, Maine)
Henrikson was impressive for the Polar Bears during a 2-1 week, as she averaged 22.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.0 steals per game. She sank half of her 40 attempts from the floor, connected on 10-of-23 from long range (.435), and made 17-of-19 free throws (.895). In Tuesday’s 65-45 victory over Eastern Conn. St., Henrikson had 25 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. She scored 17 points in Friday’s 68-58 win at Middlebury and closed the week with a double-double at Williams, netting 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 67-55 setback.

Kaitlin Donahoe, Bowdoin
(Junior, Guard - Amherst, N.Y.)
Donahoe scored 16 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to help the Polar Bears recover from an 11-point halftime deficit and down Colby, 64-52. She hit 6-of-10 shots, making all three three-point attempts, and went 8-of-10 at the line. She finished Bowdoin’s 2-0 week averaging 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
 
Eileen Gaffney, Wesleyan
(Senior, Forward - Manhasset, N.Y.)
Gaffney averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals, shooting 12-of-27 (.444) from the floor and 13-of-15 from the foul line (.867). In Wednesday’s 71-59 victory at Emmanuel, Gaffney had a career-high 27 points, as she made all 11 free throw attempts. She had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s 51-43 victory over Connecticut College.

Caroline Stedman, Amherst
(Senior, Guard - Walpole, Mass.)
Stedman helped keep the Jeffs perfect against some stiff competition last week, averaging 20.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game. She made 20-of-46 from the floor (.435) and 19-of-23 from the foul line (.826). On Tuesday, Stedman poured in a career-high 31 points, hitting 7-of-10 shots in the second half, as Amherst pulled away from Kean 81-58. She had a team-high 17 points, 12 in the second half, of Friday’s 63-59 victory at Bowdoin, scoring her 1,000th career point in the process. Saturday at Colby, Stedman had a hand in six of the Jeffs’ final eight points (14 total), including the game-winning bucket, in a 51-50, come-from-behind win.

Jenn Shinall, Connecticut College
(Senior, Guard - Redding, Conn.)
Shinall averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game during the Camels’ 2-0 weekend. She connected on 11 of her 24 shots (.458), hitting 9-of-14 from long range (.643), and made 12-of-17 free throw attempts (.706). After posting 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds in Friday’s 72-59 victory over Middlebury, Shinall exploded for a career-high 30 points during an 81-72 victory over Williams, as she made 6-of-8 from three-point range and 10-of-12 from the foul line.

Mack shot .618 percent from the floor (21-for-34) during a 3-0 week for the Mules, averaging 15.3 points to go along with 8.7 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game. During Monday’s 74-57 victory over Maine rival Bates, Mack became the 15th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points with a 20-point effort, hitting 9-of-12 from the floor (.750). She had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in Wednesday’s 72-39 win over Wentworth, and closed the week with 14 points, nine rebounds, and five steals in Sunday’s 65-54 victory at Hamilton.

Lem Atanga McCormick, Amherst
(Senior, Forward - Chicago, Ill.)
Atanga McCormick averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while becoming the 11th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points over a pair of victories for the Jeffs at the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada last week. She scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds during Wednesday’s 67-37 victory over Concordia, then posted 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds while hitting 7-of-14 shots in only 21 minutes of work in Thursday’s 109-39 win against WPI. Atanga McCormick also recorded a block in each outing.

Jill Henrikson, Bowdoin
(Senior, Guard - Bath, Maine)
Henrikson helped the Polar Bears close out the fall semester with three wins as she averaged 22.0 points and 6.0 rebounds with a 2.8 assist-to-turnover ratio. She made 19-of-30 shots from the floor (.633), 7-of-13 from three-point range (.538), and sank 21-of-22 free throw attempts (.955) while averaging 28.0 minutes per game. During Thursday’s 66-60 victory over Bates, Henrikson scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting. She followed on Saturday at Emerson with a season-high 28 points in an 83-59 victory, hitting 4-of-6 three-point attempts.

Claire Baecher, Williams
(Junior, Forward - Brunswick, Maine)
Baecher took home MVP accolades at the Williams Holiday Classic as she led the undefeated Ephs to wins over Bridgewater St. and Daemen with 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.0 blocks per game. She made 16-of-28 attempts from the floor (.571) and 11-of-14 from the foul line (.786). Baecher had a career-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting along with 10 boards in Friday’s 89-63 victory over Bridgewater St. Saturday against Daemen, Baecher scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, had nine blocks, and stole the ball three times in a 71-45 victory. It was her second game this season with nine blocks.

Jill Henrikson, Bowdoin
(Senior, Guard - Bath, Maine)
Henrikson poured in a game-high 21 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, seven on the defensive glass, recorded seven steals, and collected three assists during Tuesday’s 69-53 victory over the University of New England. She made 6-of-9 shots from the floor (.667), going 5-for-8 from three-point range (.625), and was a perfect 4-for-4 at the foul line. Henrikson is averaging 18.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6.3 steals per game so far this season.

Claire Baecher, Williams
(Junior, Forward - Brunswick, Maine)
Baecher took home MVP honors at the Williams Classic over the weekend, leading the Ephs to the tournament title with wins over Whitman and Babson. She averaged 17.5 points per game on 15-of-25 shooting for the event (.600) while also grabbing 8.5 rebounds and recording 5.0 blocks. Baecher nearly had a triple-double during Sunday’s 61-39 victory over Babson, as she scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, nine coming on the defensive glass, and blocked nine shots.
