Babson Overcomes Colby in Double-Overtime in NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament

WATERVILLE, Maine - Babson is headed to the NCAA Tournament Sectionals after going two overtimes in taking a 76-73 victory over Colby in a second round game Saturday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Beavers move to 27-3 overall and are one of 16 teams left in the NCAA tourney. Colby finishes the season at 24-5.

Babson had three inside players with double-doubles in scoring and rebounding as the Beavers took a 61-43 rebounding advantage in the game against one of the better rebounding teams in the country. Colby finished the season with a plus-10.1 board advantage over the opponent. Nicole Wurdeman (Rowley, Mass.) had 22 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out of the game. Kathleen King (Framingham, Mass.) added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Sarah Collins (Weymouth, Mass.) finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, Mass.) paced Colby with 22 points and seven rebounds to finish her career with 1,229 points. Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) added 19 points before fouling out, while Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Colby sent the game to the first overtime when Julianne Kowalski (Montville, N.J.) nailed one of two free throws to make it a 59-59 game. The Mules had a second chance to win the game with a 68-66 lead after Cappelloni nailed two free throws with 26 seconds left in the first overtime. However, King nailed a short jumper to tie the game and then blocked a shot at the buzzer. Babson got ahead quickly in the second overtime and never trailed. The Beavers were 5-for-6 from the foul line in the final 1:26 to secure the win.
