NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College has joined forces with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to promote breast cancer awareness with a “Think Pink” night for its meeting with the Coast Guard Tuesday, February 5.

The Camels and Bears will be wearing pink warm up t-shirts and pink shoelaces for their game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink attire to show their unified support for this global initiative. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Connecticut College senior tri-captain Katy Serafin and her teammates are looking forward to the upcoming event and spreading the word about breast cancer.

“To basketball players, the best offense is a good defense,” Serafin stated. “Prevention is key in fighting the war on breast cancer. Come support our offense and defense on Tuesday, February 5 to promote breast cancer awareness.”

The WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year of the WBCA's "Think Pink" a success.

The Camels have designated the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation (TBBCF) of New London as the designated charity for Tuesday night’s game. The TBBCF is a nonprofit group dedicated to providing critical funding to researchers in search of a cure for breast cancer. Their pledge is to direct 100 percent of total gross fundraising dollars toward breast cancer research.

Connecticut College head coach Laura Hungerford is looking forward to the “Pink Out” on February 5.

“Everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer,” Hungerford stated. “We want to do something to help those in need and raise awareness in our community.”
