Hoffler of Williams Wins Triple Jump During Day Two of NCAA Track & Field Championships
DELAWARE, Ohio – Sophomore Tanasia Hoffler of Williams College earned the national title in the women's triple jump during day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field championships Friday at Ohio Wesleyan.
Hoffler repeated as the national triple jump champion with her sixth and final jump, a distance of 12.32 meters.
The Eph women are second overall heading into the final day of the championship with 26 points, 22 points behind first-place Wis.-Oshkosh. Tufts is tied for 12th with nine points. On the men's side of the championship, Bates, Connecticut College, and Tufts are all tied for 28th overall with three points. Middlebury is tied for 34th with two points.
The Tufts tandem of Kanku Kabongo and Nakeisha Jones finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the women's triple jump. Kabongo had a mark of 11.70 meters, while Jones had a performance of 11.66 meters.
In other events at the championship, Tufts senior Amy Wilfert placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:36.04, roughly 12 seconds behind the first place time. First year Brianne Mirecki from Williams was 10th (10:40.75).
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Connecticut College freshman Michael LeDuc came in sixth with a time of 9:03.72. He finished over a second ahead of Middlebury sophomore Jack Davies (9:04.91).
Williams first year Amina Avril came in ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.40 meters.
Sophomore David Pless of Bates led the field of three Bobcats in the shot put. Pless came in eighth overall with a throw of 16.79 meters, coming on his fifth toss. Ethan Waldman was 16th and Christopher Murtagh was 19th.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships conclude Saturday at Selby Field and the George Gauthier Track with the first finals of the day set to begin at noon.
