Second Day at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Complete
BEREA, Ohio – Day two at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships is in the books at Baldwin-Wallace College. Bates is tied for 20th with six points on the women's side, while Williams is in a six-way tie for 35th with two points. For the men, Amherst is 14th with seven points, followed by Tufts and Bates, who are both tied for 26th with four points. Middlebury is in a two-way tie for 38th.
Rookie Jack Davies of Middlebury came in eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time 9:07.54. Tufts senior Jared Engelking improved on his 11th-place performance in the decathlon on day one by finishing seventh overall on day two, as he added the 110-meter hurdles (14.76) on Friday to his 400-meter dash victory on Thursday.
Williams senior Elise Johnson had one of the fastest qualifying times in the women's 100-meter hurdles, qualifying for Saturday's championship with a time of 14.11. Junior teammate Lizzy Danhakl qualified for the 800-meter final, as her heat time of 2:10.54 is second among the field of eight.
After finishing ninth in the hammer throw yesterday, Bates senior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan came in third in the shot put with a distance of 14.31 meters.
Amherst senior Sophie Galleher came in 13th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing the race in 10:58.85.
The final day of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships occurs on Saturday with the remaining final races and competitions.
