HADLEY, Mass. - Following the completion of the 2006 NESCAC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships, the league has announced the 2006 NESCAC All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event during the championship, hosted by Bowdoin College on April 29, receive All-Conference recognition.

Bates senior Keelin Godsey (Parker, Colo.) came away with the Sabasteanski Award for the second year in a row as the Most Outstanding Female Performer at the meet. After setting a new championship record in the hammer throw during the 2005 event, Godsey established yet another new mark at this year’s championship with a toss of 61.80 meters, surpassing the previous record by almost a full two meters. Godsey also came away first in the discus throw (43.30m) and the shot put (13.45m).

Middlebury senior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) repeated as the Sabasteanski Award honoree as the Most Outstanding Male Performer. Bright successfully defended his title in both the 400-meter dash (49.15) and the 400-meter hurdles (53.34). He was also a member of the Middlebury 4x100-meter relay team that placed third at the championship.

Middlebury’s Jen Katz (Winchester, Mass.) was recognized as the female Most Outstanding Rookie Performer after placing second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, along with helping the Panther 4x100-meter relay team to a second place showing. Connecticut College’s Brian Murtagh (Rowley, Mass.) was named the male Most Outstanding Rookie Performer with a first place performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 9:27.39.

Women’s Coach of the Year honors went to fifth year head coach Ralph White from Williams, while Men’s Coach of the Year accolades were bestowed upon first year head coach Ethan Barron of Tufts. It is the third time in the last four years that White has been named Coach of the Year on the Women’s side, after last receiving the honor as both the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003. Barron, who is currently the interim head coach at Tufts this season, also earned Cross Country Co-Coach of the Year this past fall.
