2003 Track & Field All-Conference Team Released

Colby’s Garcia and Ummah Named Outstanding Performers of the Meet

HARTFORD, Conn. - Following the 2003 NESCAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the conference has announced the 2003 all-conference team. The top three finishers in each event at the Conference Championships receive all-conference recognition.

Colby teammates sophomore Xavier Garcia and junior Karima Ummah were named the Most Outstanding Performers at the championships. Garcia won the long jump, triple jump and 400 meters at the men’s championship while placing second in the 200 meters leading the Colby men to a fifth place finish. Ummah claimed the women’s high jump, long jump and triple jump titles while finishing second in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 200 meters at the women’s championship.

Bates’ Kelly Godsey was honored as the female Rookie of the Year after winning the hammer throw and finishing third in the shot put and sixth in the discus. Middlebury’s Kristoph Becker claimed male Rookie of the Year honors with a first place performance in the javelin and second place finish in the high jump. Williams’ head coach Ralph White was named both the Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after leading the Ephs to their third straight women’s title and 11th men’s title in 12 years.
