Men's Swimming & Diving All-Conference Team Announced
Williams’ Dyrkacz Repeats as Swimmer of the Meet
HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC announced today the 2011-12 Men's Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2012 NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championship received All-Conference recognition.
For the second year in a row, Williams junior Paul Dyrkacz (Wilbraham, Mass.) was voted Swimmer of the Meet by the conference coaches. Dyrkacz repeated as conference champion in the 200- and 400-yard IM along with the 200-yard Breaststroke, smashing the NESCAC record in the 200 Breaststroke for the second consecutive winter. He also helped his Eph squad win three relay events, as Williams claimed the league title by 52 points over rival Amherst, the slimmest margin in meet history. Connecticut College senior Tim Walsh (Lincoln Park, N.J.) received Four Year High-Point Swimmer honors. Walsh wrapped up his career at the NESCAC meet by taking all three backstroke events for a third time. He also ended his tenure as a four-time champion in the 100-yard Backstroke.
Tufts sophomore Johann Schmidt (Nanuet, N.Y.) repeated as the Diver of the Meet after winning the 1- and 3- meter Diving events for the second time in as many years. Williams senior Alex Long (Atlanta, Ga.) came away with the Four Year High-Point Diver award. Long was third on both boards at this year's championship.
Of those honored with All-NESCAC this year, 28 individuals hailed from conference champion Williams and Amherst combined. The Ephs had a total of 16 individuals recognized.
Steve Kuster was chosen by his peers as Swimming Coach of the Year. It is the sixth time that Kuster has been honored as the men's Coach of the Year, as he has been chosen three times in the last four years. Brad Snodgrass of Tufts took home Diving Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. Snodgrass was previously named women's diving Coach of the Year in 2007 and again in 2008.
