Williams Earns 2008 Men's Swimming & Diving Championships

2007 Championship Results

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Williams won its seventh NESCAC Championship in the last eight years as the Ephs captured the ’08 title at Middlebury College’s Natatorium. Williams finished the three-day event with 1,860 points, followed by Tufts (1,489), Amherst (1,399) and Middlebury (1,181).

Day three events saw six pool records broken as well as a pair of NESCAC meet records falling. Gary Roberson of Williams earned a victory in the 1,650 free (15:49.75) as did teammate Ben Bullitt in the 200 back (1:52.63), both setting new pool records. Also setting a new pool record at Middlebury Sunday night was Grant Moryan of Connecticut College, who did so with a time of 45.94 in the 100 free. Kai Robinson of Amherst earned 558.65 points in three-meter diving, while Williams’ Norman Scott finished the 200 fly in 1:49.81, both setting pool and NESCAC meet records.

Today other record-breaker was the Amherst 400 freestyle relay team comprised of Tad Homchick, Alex Fraser, Derek Prill and Christian Witzke, who won the event with a time of 3:04.27, setting a new pool record.

The swimmer of the year award went to Tyler Bonewell of Williams, while Kai Robinson of Amherst was deemed the diver of the year.

Earning the most points in NESCAC Championship meets over his four year was Todd Johnson of Hamilton, while Connor Boyd of Amherst did the same on the diving side.

Williams Remains in Lead at Men's Swimming & Diving Championship

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Williams remains in first place after day two of the NESCAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Middlebury College. The Ephs have 1282 points with one day of competition remaining, followed by Tufts (1092), Amherst (994) and Middlebury (841).

The Williams 200 medley relay team comprised of Norman Scott, Tyler Bonewell, Alex Wentworth-Ping and Ben Wampler set a new pool record with a time of 1:32.38 en route to their win. The Ephs also set a pool record in the 800 free relay (6:49.16), with team members Chris Millen, David Lebovitz, Michael Kirwan and Gary Roberson.

Roberson of Williams set a new pool record with a time of 9:26.24 in the 1000 free as did Chris Millen with his win in the 400 IM (4:04.83). Also setting new pool records in the evening were Middlebury’s Kevin O’Rourke in the 200 free (1:41) and Hamilton’s Todd Johnson in the 100 backstroke (51.73).

Competition wraps up on Saturday, March 2nd at the Middlebury College Natatorium with preliminary races in the morning and championship events in the evening.

Williams Holds Early Lead After Day One at Men's Swimming & Diving Championship

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Williams leads after day one of the 2008 NESCAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Middlebury College. The Ephs have earned 640 points, followed by Tufts (588), Amherst (538) and Middlebury (390).

The Amherst 200 free relay team comprised of Tad Homchick, Alex Fraser, Andrew Maslan and Christian Witzke set a new NESCAC meet and Middlebury pool record, winning the event with a time of 1:23.19. The Williams 400 medley team of Worth Macdonald, Tyler Bonewell, Alex Wentworth-Ping and Ben Wampler won the event and set a new pool record with a 3:24.83 effort.

Two Middlebury swimmers broke records Friday evening, as Schuyler Beeman set a new meet and pool record with a time of 20.56 to capture the 50 free. Teammate Kevin O’Rourke won the 500 free in 4:32.76, a new pool record.

The other record-breaker on Friday night was Norman Scott of Williams, who set a new NESCAC meet and pool record with a time of 22.38 in the 50 fly.

Competition resumes on Saturday March 1st at the Middlebury College Natatorium with preliminary races in the morning and championship events in the evening.
