Women's Squash All-Conference Teams Announced

First-Year Standout Pelaez of Trinity Named Player, Rookie of the Year

HADLEY, Mass. – Trinity College first year player Catalina Pelaez (Bogota, Columbia) has been selected by the conference coaches as the 2011 NESCAC Player of the Year. Playing at the top of the Bantams' ladder all season, Pelaez earned a 14-3 record in dual competition as she helped her squad win the NESCAC Women's Squash Championship for the fifth year in a row this past February.

Pelaez, who also earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors, was one of three Trinity players chosen as a part of the 10-member All-NESCAC First Team. Joining Pelaez from the Bantams were senior Pamela Hathway (Munich, Germany) and first year Jennifer Pelletier (Richmond Hill, Ontario). Hathway earned a spot on the First Team for the second year in a row, going 10-1 this season and winning the consolation finals of the Ramsay Division at the 2011 College Squash Association individual championships. She was named the NESCAC Player of the Year in 2010. Pelletier put together a 12-5 record during her first season with the Bantams.

Middlebury and Williams both placed two individuals on this year's First Team. Representing the Panthers were junior Elena Laird (Cambridge, Mass.) and first year Abby Jenkins (Latham, N.Y.). Laird, a Second Team honoree in 2009 while attending Bowdoin, went 10-9 this season, while Jenkins was 15-5. The duo helped Middlebury to its best finish at the NESCAC championship, as the Panthers were the runner-up to the Bantams.

Back for a third consecutive year on the First Team was Eph junior Courtney Bogle (Bronxville, N.Y.), who finished the year 8-12 for her squad. Bogle was accompanied from Williams by sophomore Laura Henry (Philadelphia, Pa.), who earned All-Conference for the first time with a 10-10 mark in match play.

Bowdoin senior Lauren Gesswein (Fairfield, Conn.) rounded out a fantastic career by garnering All-NESCAC honors for the fourth consecutive year. Named to the First Team for the second-straight year, Gesswein posted a 15-3 mark in dual play for the Polar Bears.

The final two spots on the All-Conference First Team went to a pair of players representing Maine teams, sophomores Cheri-Ann Parris (St. Phillip, Barbados) of Bowdoin and Kate Pistel (Amherst, Mass.) of Colby. Parris, the 2010 NESCAC Rookie of the Year and member of the First Team, went 16-7 in dual play during her second year for the Bobcats. Pistel, who was promoted from last year's Second Team, earned an even 12-12 record for the Mules.

Jamie King of Hamilton was honored by his peers as the NESCAC Coach of the Year. In his fourth season guiding the Continentals' women's team, King's squad posted a 13-10 overall record and was seeded sixth in the annual NESCAC Women's Squash Championship. It is the first time that King has received the honor.
