MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Avenging its opening-day Game 1 loss to Trinity, Wesleyan got a second complete-game victory of the day from senior Karla Hargrave as the Cardinals moved past the Bantams 8-2 in Game 5 of the 2008 NESCAC Softball Championship.

The only blemish on Hargrave's performance was the two-run homer by sophomore Jessica Tait in the 6th inning to break up Hargrave's shutout. Though the two runs by the Bantams cut Wesleyan's lead to 6-2 at the time, the Cardinals responded with the second two-run homer of the game from senior Jo Brownson in the 7th inning.

Both Brownson, in the 5th inning, and junior Molly O'Connell, in the 4th inning, powered balls over the fence with a teammate on base as the three homers in the contest for Wesleyan accounted for six of its eight runs. The go-ahead run in the 1st inning came from an freshman Talia Bernstein RBI single.

The loss knocked Trinity out of the tournament and propelled Wesleyan to the championship series vs. unbeaten Tufts.
