July 22, 2008 Bates Appoints Steenstra as Interim Rowing Coach
LEWISTON, Maine Former Bates assistant coach Peter Steenstra has been appointed interim head rowing coach at Bates College for the 2008-09 academic year, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Monday. Steenstra served as Bates' assistant rowing coach during the 2007-08 academic year under former head coach Andrew Carter, whose resignation was announced Wednesday.

LEWISTON, Maine Bates College head rowing coach Andrew Carter has resigned effective July 31, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Wednesday. Carter became Bates head coach in 2000, shortly after rowing was first established as a varsity sport in 2000. Carter led the Bates womens rowing team to its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Womens Rowing Championships in May 2008.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. For the fourth time in program history, the Williams womens crew has captured the NCAA Division III womens rowing title. In the grand final, the Williams 1V and 2V boats placed second and third, outdistancing runner-up Trinity for the team title. Williams was the only team to send a second varsity eight to the grand final.
May 11, 2008 Williams Women, Trinity Men Claim 2008 NESCAC Rowing Titles
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Trinity mens varsity eight crew finished first at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond Sunday afternoon, giving the Bantams their fourth consecutive NESCAC Men's Rowing crown. For the women's title, Williams won its third-straight NESCAC Women's Rowing Championship after finishing as the top NESCAC women's varsity eight at the event.
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - With strong showings in both the petite and grand finals, Williams College successfully defended its Division III national title at the NCAA Rowing Championships at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. It was the third overall team title for Williams in the six years of NCAA Division III championship competition.
