WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Williams College sophomore standout Bryan Chow (Schenectady, N.Y.) has been named the winner of the prestigious NCAA Elite 88 Award at the 2011 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships.
The ELITE 88, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.
Williams has now won four NCAA Elite 88 awards in the two-year history of the honor.
Chow, who has yet to declare a major, has compiled a 4.0 GPA to date, earning Dean's List status each semester.
This season Chow teamed with first year Matt Micheli at number one doubles and played number five singles. In doubles Chow-Micheli went 13-2 and in singles play Chow fashioned a record of 21-3.
Chow was a large reason the Ephs finished fourth in the NCAA Team Championships. He and Micheli won a doubles point versus third ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and then posted an incredible come from behind win at No. 5 singles to wrap up the match 5-4 and push the Ephs in to the semifinals.
