Middlebury Wins 2006 Men's Tennis Championship

Courtesy Williams Sports Information

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Middlebury men's tennis (19-2) won its third straight NESCAC title this afternoon with a 4-3 win over host Williams (12-3). With the team score tied at three, the NESCAC title was up for grabs for the winner of the No. 1 match between Williams' sophomore Dan Greenberg and Middlebury's Brian Waldron.

Greenberg fought his way out of a one-set deficit to win the second in a tiebreaker and force a decisive third set. Fighting off cramping and fatigue, the two players gritted out a gutsy third set in which each player struggled to walk at times. In the end, Waldron outlasted Greenberg to win the third set and give Middlebury its third straight NESCAC title.
