Men's Basketball All-Conference Teams Announced
Colby's Clark Selected as Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior forward Sam Clark of Colby was named the 2000-01 NESCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. Clark, who earned second-team honors last season, averaged a conference-best 20.4 points per game. He also averaged 9.3 rebounds per game and 1.9 blocks per game in leading Colby to the semifinals of the NESCAC tournament.
Senior guard Kareem Tatum of Connecticut College and junior guard Leo Jones of Wesleyan were repeat first-team selections. Tatum averaged 16.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Jones averaged 18.2 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. He led the NESCAC in rebounding, averaging 10.0 boards per game.
Rounding out the first team were senior guard Brian Daoust of Amherst and junior guard Colin Tabb of Trinity. Daoust averaged 16.2 points per game, hit 72 three-pointers, and led the Jeffs to the NESCAC championship title. Tabb averaged 18.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in leading the Bantams to the top seed and title game appearance in the NESCAC tournament.
Senior forward Andrew Conley of Williams was named the 2000-01 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He helped the Ephs limit opponents to 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 29.7 percent from three-point range.
The 2000-01 NESCAC Rookie of the Year honor was shared by Phil Barlow of Tufts and Mike Crotty of Williams. Barlow averaged 11.0 points and 2.2 steals per game, and shot 43.8 percent from 3-point range. Crotty averaged 7.6 points and 5.1 assists per game.
Dave Hixon of Amherst was named the NESCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Jeffs to a 21-5 record and the NESCAC championship title.
