Williams Holds 12-Stroke Lead After Day One at Golf Championship

KENSINGTON, Conn. - Freshmen Drew Murray and Jack Killea both shot a 32 on the back nine, finishing with respective scores of 70 and 71, to lead Williams College after day one at the 2008 NESCAC Men's Golf Championship at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, Conn.Williams recorded a team score of 291, leading second-place Middlebury (303) by 12 strokes.
Hamilton sits in third place with 306, just three strokes behind Middlebury, and host Trinity is fourth with a score of 318.
Middlebury senior George Baumann (Mequon, Wis.) had the best score of the first day, as he carded a two-under 69. Williams freshman Drew Murray (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) was only one stroke behind with a score of 70. Murray was joined by teammates Jack Killea (Ridgefield, Conn.) with an even 71 and junior Matt Felser (Buffalo, N.Y.) with a +2 73. Rounding out the top five performances from day one was Middlebury freshman Jim Levins (Rutland, Vt.) at +3 74.
Day two gets underway Sunday at Shuttle Meadow at 12:15 p.m. The winner of the two-day 2008 NESCAC Men's Golf Championship receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship in May.
