2003 Field Hockey Players of the Week

November 10, 2003
Becca Brakeley, Middlebury
(Senior, Defense - Middlebury, Vt.)
Brakeley had a big weekend for Middlebury as she led the defense to a pair of shutouts en route to the NESCAC Championship. The senior also made a big defensive save late in the game to preserve the shutout over Williams. Brakeley and the Panther defense have shutout four straight opponents, haven’t allowed a goal in 326 minutes and are allowing a mere 0.88 goals/game. Middlebury will host one of four NCAA Regionals this weekend on Kohn Field.

Marissa O’Neil, Bowdoin
(Junior, Forward - Manchester, N.H.)
O'Neil had an outstanding week for Bowdoin on her way to breaking the school record for single-season points (49). O'Neil posted four goals and six assists in a 3-0 week for the Polar Bears. She had a goal and two assists in a 9-1 thumping of Husson before scoring two goals and an assist against Bates. In the first-round of the NESCAC Tournament against Tufts, she scored another goal and had three assists in a 6-0 win.

Abigail Lamb, Middlebury
(Senior, Forward - Mendham, N.J.)
Lamb scored six goals and assisted on three others as the Panthers wrapped up a perfect regular season at 14-0. The senior scored four goals in the win over Rensselaer, then broke a school-record with three assists to go along with two goals in a conference win over Connecticut College.

Emily Huffman, Connecticut College
(Senior, Midfielder - Oklahoma City, Okla.)
Connecticut College senior Emily Huffman netted three goals and added an assist, leading the Camels to a 5-0 victory over Bates College Saturday. The seven point explosion enabled Huffman to set a new school record for points with 90.

Char Glessner, Middlebury
(Senior, Forward - Ipswich, Mass.)
Glessner scored both goals, including the game-winner in overtime as Middlebury picked up a 2-1 NESCAC road win at Tufts. The overtime goal was her 99th and 100th career points at Middlebury.

Louisa Mook, Wesleyan
(Junior, Forward - Newcastle, Maine)
Mook posted 2 goals and 2 assists on the week as Wesleyan notched two conference victories. Mook tallied a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win against Tufts, then scored the game’s first goal and then setup the game winner in an overtime win at 16th-ranked Amherst.

O'Neil had an incredible week for Bowdoin, leading the Polar Bears to two wins. O'Neil scored one goal and had three assists in a 5-2 win over Southern Maine before collecting a hat trick in a 5-0 blanking of Connecticut College. For the week, the junior forward scored four times and had three assists, having a hand in seven of Bowdoin's 10 goals.

Tori Scott, Williams
(Senior, Forward - Cambridge, Mass.)
Scott recorded nine points in a 3-0 week for Williams as she became the school’s all-time points leader. In a 5-0 defeat of Union, she scored three times and assisted on another. Over the weekend, the senior tied the Williams career goals record netting one goal with an assist against Bates and adding another assist in a 2-1 overtime defeat of Colby.

Molly Rice, Colby
(Freshman, Goalkeeper - South Portland, Maine)
Colby goaltender Molly Rice set a school record with 36 saves in the Mules' 3-2 loss at sixth-ranked Middlebury. Rice broke the old school record of 33 set by Rachel Simson '95 in 1995 against Plymouth State. She also had four stops in a 2-1 win against Maine-Farmington. Rice averaged 22 saves in two games and is now 6-1 and has 66 saves in her first season with Colby.

Katherine Skrivan, Amherst
(Sophomore, Midfielder - St. Louis, Mo.)
Amherst sophomore midfielder Katherine Skrivan tallied the winning goal in the Jeffs' 3-0 win over 17th-ranked Springfield, and scored the tying goal in a 2-1 overtime win over fifth-ranked Bowdoin.

Kathleen Martin, Tufts
(Freshman, Attacker - Cumberland, Maine)
Martin scored both Tufts goals in a 2-1 NESCAC victory at Connecticut College on Saturday. Her first came barely one minute into the game to give Tufts a 1-0 lead. She then struck early again in the second half with the eventual game-winning goal 3:42 into the frame. The victory gave rebuilding Tufts its first back-to-back wins since late October 2000.

K.C. Cosentino, Amherst
(Junior, Goalkeeper - Greenwich, Conn.)
Junior goalie K.C. Cosentino tallied 19 saves and surrendered just one goal in a 2-0 week for Amherst, highlighted by an 11-save shutout in Saturday's NESCAC-opening, 1-0 win at Tufts.
