2001 Field Hockey Championship Field Announced

HARTFORD, Conn. – Regular season play concluded today and the pairings were set for the first round of the NESCAC Field Hockey Championship tournament to be contested Sunday at Bowdoin College’s Ryan Field.

Bowdoin (7-2, 12-2) earned the second seed and will face seventh-seeded Connecticut College (4-5, 7-7) at 1 p.m. Williams (6-3, 9-4) is seeded third and faces sixth-seeded Wesleyan (4-5, 7-7) in the tournament’s first game at 10:30 a.m. Fourth-seeded Amherst (6-3, 11-3) will play fifth-seeded Colby (5-4, 8-6) to complete first-round play at 3:30 p.m. Williams and Amherst tied with 6-3 conference marks with the Ephs earning the third seed based on their win over the Jeffs during the regular season. Wesleyan and Connecticut College each posted 4-5 conference marks with the Cardinals earning the sixth seed by virtue of their win over the Camels during the regular season.

Middlebury, which posted an 8-1 record in conference play, earned the top seed for the tournament. The three first-round winners will join Middlebury in the conference tournament semifinals. The Panthers will host the semifinals on Saturday, October 27 and will host the championship game on Sunday, October 28.

The top seven teams in regular season conference play qualify for the NESCAC championship tournament. The top-seeded team hosts the semifinal and final rounds, while the other six teams compete in first-round action at a pre-determined site. The top seed faces the lowest remaining seed in one semifinal and the other two first round winners face off in the other semifinal.

No. 4 Amherst (6-3, 11-3) vs. No. 5 Colby (5-4, 8-6) - 3:30 p.m.

Semifinals - Saturday, Oct. 27 at Middlebury
Lowest remaining seed at No. 1 Middlebury (8-1, 10-4) - 11:00 a.m.
Two other first-round winners - 1:30 p.m.

Championship - Sunday, Oct. 28 at Middlebury
Semifinal winners - 12:00 p.m.
