HADLEY, Mass. Bowdoin junior Phil Tonucci (Hingham, Mass.) has been selected by the NCAA to serve on the Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Tonucci will be entering his third season with the Polar Bear Football team this fall and will also serve as a member of the NESCAC SAAC in addition to his role as a part of the Bowdoin SAAC.
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Steve Hauschka signed a free-agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings at the conclusion of the 2008 NFL draft on Sunday. Hauschka, who graduated from Middlebury College in 2007 with a degree in neuroscience, had an extra season of eligibility and enrolled at North Carolina States graduate school this past fall. He earned a spot on the Wolfpack as the teams placekicker this past season, making a combined 95% of his field goals and PATs.
December 5, 2007 Ritter of Middlebury Named AFCA Region 1 Coach of the Year
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College football coach Bob Ritter has been named the Region 1 AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Coach of the Year. The seventh-year head coach led the Panthers to the 2007 NESCAC Football Championship with a record of 7-1 on the season. He along with four other regional winners will now be placed on the National Coach of the Year ballot, to be announced later this month.
HADLEY, Mass. - Williams senior quarterback Patrick Lucey (Plymouth, Mass.) and Middlebury senior linebacker Erik Woodring (Cos Cob, Conn.) have been named as the 2007 NESCAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, as determined by the conference coaches. It is the second year in a row that Lucey has been named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Woodring is the first Panther defensive player to earn top honors since Andy Steele received the award in 2000. Middlebury head coach Bob Ritter was the choice among the coaches, coming away with Coach of the Year honors for the first time in his career. In his seventh season with the Panthers, Ritter guided Middlebury to a 7-1 record and the 2007 NESCAC Football title, its first outright NESCAC championship after sharing the conference crown in 2000.

HADLEY, Mass. - Bowdoin sophomore QB Oliver Kell (Westford, Mass. earned NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Middlebury senior LB Erik Woodring (Cos Cob, Conn.) was named NESCAC Defensive Player of the week for Nov. 11, 2007. Middlebury freshman QB Donald McKillop (Poway, Calif.) came away as the NESCAC Rookie of the Week.
