2003 Baseball Players of the Week
May 12, 2003
Andrew Fries, Trinity
(Sophomore, Catcher - Dublin, Ohio)
Fries went 8-for-21 with four runs, and 10 RBI, while smacking
three home runs to help Trinity win the NESCAC Championship with
four wins in five days. Fries also caught all five games.
May 5, 2003
Dave Levinson, Amherst
(Freshman, First Base - Philadelphia, Pa.)
Rookie first baseman Dave Levinson batted .471 with seven RBI's, a
home run and four doubles in a 3-2 week for Amherst, which included
a three-game sweep against Middlebury which cemented the Jeffs'
host seed for the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament.
April 28, 2003
Evan Zupancic, Tufts
(Senior, Centerfielder - Lake Oswego, Ore.)
In a 4-0 week for Tufts, Zupancic hit .647 (11 for 17), scored 10
runs (29% of the team total), hit a walk-off home run, had five
RBIs and stole four bases. The walk-off home run in the 11th inning
gave Tufts a 3-1 win over Division II Bentley. During the
team’s three-game sweep at Colby that locked up a NESCAC
tournament berth, Zupancic went 9 for 12 (.750) with nine runs
scored, 4 doubles, 4 walks, three RBIs, and three stolen bases. He
went 5 for 6 in game one.
April 21, 2003
Kurt Piantek, Trinity
(Senior, Infielder - Wallingford, Conn.)
Piantek went 8-for-14 with four runs, nine RBI, one double, one
home run, and five walks for a .684 on base percentage. Trinity
took two of three from Tufts to move into first place in the East
Division. The senior went 3-for-4 with two runs, four RBI, a double
and a homer in a 6-1 win on Friday against Tufts.
April 14, 2003
John Prescott, Middlebury
(Senior, First Base - Sierra Madre, Calif.)
Prescott went 8-13 (.615) in a three-game sweep of Hamilton. He
also had two doubles and the game-tying homer in the eighth inning
of game three. The senior scored six runs and drove in three during
the sweep.
Jon Lee,
Tufts
(Senior, Pitcher - Manhasset Hills, N.Y.)
Lee earned both victories in Tufts' double-header sweep at Bowdoin
on Saturday. He went the distance in game one, allowing thee hits,
one run and no walks in seven innings. He started game two and went
six innings, allowing no runs and two hits with no walks. In all,
he pitched 13 innings allowing one run (0.69 era), five hits (.116
batting average) and no walks while striking out six.
April 7, 2003
Robert Dolliver, Trinity
(Senior, C/1B - Norwich, Conn.)
Dolliver went 4-for-6 with 1 run and 5 RBI while hitting for the
cycle, which includes a single, double, triple, and homerun in a
single game, against WPI.
Chris Vecsey,
Amherst
(Senior, Pitcher, Madison, N.Y.)
Vecsey pitched 3.2 innings of perfect relief in a dramatic 7-6
come-from-behind win at Wesleyan, striking out six batters in route
to his first win of the season. His ERA remains 0.00 in 9.1 innings
on the year.

Kurt Piantek, Trinity
(Senior, Infielder - Wallingford, Conn.)
Piantek has 23 hits in 41at-bats with three doubles, five home
runs, 17 runs, and 20 RBI in 12 games. The senior reached base
safely in 14 out of 15 plate appearances with four home runs in a
three-game series against Bowdoin to open the NESCAC season.
Jon Lee,
Tufts
(Senior, Pitcher - Manhasset Hills, N.Y.)
Jon Lee pitched the second no-hitter of his collegiate career on
Saturday against Bates in an 8-0 win. He went seven innings and was
just one walk and one error away from a perfect game. He retired 11
in a row at one point, threw just 82 pitches, and struck out eight.
Neither Bobcat baserunner reached second base.
