Rainey Johnson, Middlebury College
Rainey Johnson graduated magna cum laude from
Middlebury College in the spring of 2009 with a degree in
chemistry/biochemistry. He was the recipient of the school’s
Hazeltine-Klevenow Memorial Trophy, given annually to the senior
male who best combines ability in athletics and excellence in
scholarship. Johnson captained the men’s cross country team
during his senior year, after entering the school with no prior
cross country racing experience. As a senior, he was a scoring
member of the team at several races, finishing in the top five for
the Panthers in every meet. He was twice named to the All-NESCAC
Academic team.
Johnson was a member of SAAC at Middlebury, while also serving as a mentor and tutor at area elementary schools during his four years. He graduated with high honors and will be a part of the Teach For American program as he pursues a master’s degree in the fall of 2009.
