Spencer Durland, Trinity College
Spencer Durland, a psychology major from
Rochester, New York, was the starting goalkeeper on the Trinity
College men’s soccer team. This year, Durland was presented
with The Robert R. Bartlett Award, given annually to the male
student who has combined excellence in athletics and devotion to
community and/or campus service. This fall, the co-captain finished
fifth in the NESCAC in save percentage, stopping 81 percent of his
opponent’s shots, and was selected to the NESCAC All-Academic
team.
Durland has served as the web site manager, build coordinator and President of the Habitat for Humanity, spending two of his spring breaks in New Orleans lending a hand in the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina tragedy. He has been a coach at the ESF Summer Camp, and works with a group that deals with abused and neglected children. Durland has also given his time to the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford. He now travels to South Africa where he will serve as a volunteer teacher.
