Trinity's Samarth, Amherst's Robinson Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team
TOWSON, Md. - Seniors Gautam Samarth (Pune, India) of Trinity and Kai Robinson (Vashon, Wash.) of Amherst were selected as Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday, June 9. The two individuals were members of the College Division Men's At-Large Teams, with Samarth earning First Team honors and Robinson garnering Second Team recognition.

Former Wesleyan Baseball Member Dominguez Signs with Boston Red Sox Organization
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Former Wesleyan SS/P Drew Dominguez '09 became the first Cardinal baseball player to sign a contract with a Major League Baseball team in 44 years after signing with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, June 16. Dominguez was offered a contract as a non-drafted free agent on Thursday, June 11, and after accepting was assigned to the Lowell Spinners, a Single-A short season minor league affiliate based in Lowell, Mass. in the New York-Penn League.

Mwaturura of Trinity Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors
TOWSON, Md. - Trinity College field hockey senior midfielder Christine Mwaturura (Helensvale, Zimbabwe) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large Third Team, it was announced on Thursday, June 11. She was the only NESCAC student-athlete selected on the College Division At-Large Teams. The Womens At-Large program for Academic All-America includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, tennis and water polo.

Williams Clinches 11th Consecutive Directors' Cup
ORLANDO, Fla. - Williams clinched its 11th consecutive Division III Learfield Sports Directors Cup with 1066.50 points. The Ephs competed in 16 postseason championships earning points in the maximum nine womens sports and in seven mens sports, including the national collegiate skiing championship. The announcement was made by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) on Friday at the 44th annual NACDA convention in Orlando, Fla.

Former Eph Standout Greenberg Named Williams Men's Tennis Head Coach
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. Williams College athletic director Harry Sheehy announced today that former Eph standout Dan Greenberg 08 has been named to succeed Dave Donn as the head coach of the Eph mens tennis team. Arguably one of the youngest mens head tennis coaches in NCAA play, Greenberg will coach three current Ephs who were his teammates during his playing days in seniors Nick Lebedoff and Jeremy Weinberger, and junior Ari Binder.

Twelve Men's Tennis Players Named All-America by ITA
HADLEY, Mass. - Twelve men's tennis players came away with All-America honors on Monday, it was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Of the 12 individuals honored, six were for singles play while four doubles teams were recognized, a total of eight players.

Amherst's Tropiano Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award
HADLEY, Mass. Elise Tropiano (Plainview, N.Y.), a 2009 graduate of Amherst College and a former participant on the Jeffs cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams, has been nominated for the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year Award by the NESCAC. She is the second individual from Amherst in the past three years to be nominated by the conference for Woman of the Year, after Shauneen Garrahan was nominated in 2007. The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Former Trinity Baseball Players Bayer, Killeen Join Boston Red Sox Organization
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Boston Red Sox selected Trinity College senior RHP Jeremiah Bayer (Greenfield, Mass.) in the 30th round of Major League Baseball's Amateur Draft, and Bantam senior catcher Sean Killeen (Greenfield, Mass.) signed a free agent contract with the Red Sox shortly after the conclusion of the draft.

Williams' Moore Named CRCA Coach of the Year
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - For the third time in four years (2006, 2008 & 2009) the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has named Justin Moore from Williams the National Division III Coach of the Year. It is the fourth time that Moore has been accorded national coach of the year honors (2000).

Hamilton's Steuben Field to Receive Artificial Turf
CLINTON, N.Y. - A second anonymous donor has recently stepped forward with a million-dollar gift to Hamilton College, this time to replace the natural grass at Steuben Field with an artificial grass surface. The college's Board of Trustees approved moving ahead with the project once all funding is secured. The complete cost of the upgrade is projected to be $1,350,000, with the balance of the funds contributed by Hamilton alumni, primarily former members of the football and lacrosse teams, and parents of current student-athletes.

Murphy Named Men's Soccer Head Coach at Connecticut College
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Kenny Murphy, assistant soccer coach at Brown University, has been named mens soccer head coach at Connecticut College. Murphy, a former professional soccer player, spent 16 years on Wall Street as a successful commodities broker before joining Browns soccer program in 2003.

Connecticut College Announces Wilson as New Women's Basketball Head Coach
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Brian Wilson, associate head coach at the College of the Holy Cross, has been named womens basketball head coach at Connecticut College. Wilson, a 2000 graduate of the University of Virginia, spent six years with the Crusader program in the Patriot League, handling the critical role of recruiting coordinator for the past five seasons.

Williams Selects O'Neil as Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. Williams College athletic director Harry Sheehy announced on Thursday that Marissa ONeil, formerly an assistant coach for national champion Amherst College, has been named the head coach of the womens ice hockey program. ONeil replaces Shannon Bryant, who resigned. Bryant spent three years at Williams and compiled a record of 21-46-7.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Hamilton junior Peter Kosgei (Kapsabet, Kenya) has been selected the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Kosgei received the same award in 2008.

Williams Wins Fourth Consecutive NCAA Women's Rowing Title
CHERRY HILL, N.J. - At Cooper River Park on Saturday, Williams continued its dominance in the NCAA Division III Rowing Championships and won its record fourth consecutive team title at the national championships. The Ephs won the Division III Eights and placed a second boat fifth in the Grand Final to finish with 24 points atop the team standings.

Twelve Individuals Selected by IWLCA as All-America
HADLEY, Mass. - Twelve NESCAC student-athletes were selected by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as All-America on Wednesday, May 27. Of the 12 individuals chosen, four individuals - Williams senior Elizabeth Burns, Middlebury senior Taryn Petrelli, Colby senior Kate Sheridan, and Trinity sophomore Rachel Romanowsky - came away with First Team honors.

Carthage Downs Trinity 10-1 in NCAA Baseball Championship
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. Junior RHP Jordan Jaehne-Llanas allowed seven hits, five walks, and an unearned run with nine strikeouts in eight-plus innings, and senior 1B John Lequia totaled five RBI, including a grand slam to lead the Carthage College Red Men to a 10-1 win over the defending NCAA Champion Trinity College Bantams in an elimination game of the NCAA Baseball Championship Saturday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium. Trinity closes its season at 33-7, bowing out in the Division III World Series in two games for the third time.

Hamilton Men Finish Tied for Ninth at NCAA Track & Field Championships
MARIETTA, Ohio - The Hamilton men's track & field team finished tied for ninth on Saturday with 20.0 points at the 2009 NCAA Track & Field Championships hosted by Marietta College. Junior Peter Kosgei (Kapsabet, Kenya) earned his second individual title of the weekend by winning the 5,000-meter run.

2009 Spring All-Academic Selections Announced
HADLEY, Mass. The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its 2009 Spring All-Academic selections today, with 455 student-athletes that participated in a spring sport earning All-Academic recognition. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution.

Trinity Suffers 8-5 Loss to Kean in NCAA Baseball Championship
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. The Kean University Cougars took advantage of six Trinity College Bantam errors to take an 8-5 win over the defending NCAA Champions in the opening round of the NCAA Baseball Championship Friday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium. Trinity falls to 33-6 with its first loss in eight games and its first loss of the post-season (7-1), and will play Carthage College (38-9), which lost its opening game, 8-1, to the College of Wooster, in a losers bracket game tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. EST.

Trinity Tandem of Killeen, Bayer Named ABCA First Team All-America
HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity College seniors Sean Killeen (Greenfield, Mass.) and Jeremiah Bayer (Greenfield, Mass.) were both named First Team All-America by the American Baseball Coaches Association, it was announced on Friday, May 22. The duo helped the Bantams to a 33-7 overall record, the 2009 NESCAC Baseball Championship, and a second-straight NCAA New England Regional title along with a spot in the NCAA Baseball Championship.

Hamilton's Kosgei Wins Steeplechase During Day Two of NCAA Track & Field Championships
MARIETTA, Ohio - Hamilton College junior Peter Kosegei (Kapsabet, Kenya) overtook the 3,000-meter Steeplechase field with two laps remaining to win his third-consecutive national title at the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Marietta College. Kosgei had a time of 8:56.67 as he set a new Don Drumm Stadium mark by nearly 20 seconds.

2009 Spring All-Sportsmanship Selections Announced
HADLEY, Mass. The New England Small College Athletic Conference has announced the Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.

Amherst Falls to UC Santa Cruz in NCAA Men's Tennis Championship
CLAREMONT, Calif. The Amherst College mens tennis team had its season come to an end Thursday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to UC Santa Cruz in the NCAA Tournament finals at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. While Amherst (28-7) was making its first ever appearance in the national title match, Santa Cruz (18-7) claimed its seventh NCAA title and its third this decade.

Williams Wins Second-Straight NCAA Women's Tennis Title
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - For the second straight year and the fourth time in school history, Williams College won the NCAA Womens Tennis Championships. The Ephs entered the Championships with only two losses on the season, both to Amherst, but won the critical Championship match today to post back-to-back womens tennis titles for the second time in school history. The Ephs will face the winner of Wednesday's second semifinal Amherst vs. Chicago - in their quest to repeat as NCAA champions. LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Williams College topped Denison University in NCAA quarterfinal action in a thrilling match that endured four hours. The Ephs managed to take two of the three doubles matches over the Big Red, winning at the numbers one and two slots. Cary Gibson and Nikki Reich combined to top Kristin Cobb and Marta Drane at the #1 spot, 8-6 and Grace Baljon and Taylor French teamed up to best Kendra Murray and Meghan Damico, 8-3.

Middlebury Comes Up Short at Cortland St. in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Semifinals
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Middlebury mens lacrosse team saw its season come to an end with a 16-8 loss at Cortland State in an NCAA Semifinal game. The fourth-ranked Red Dragons closed the game with a 9-2 second-half run to defeat seventh-ranked Middlebury. Cortland advances to next Sundays title game against Gettysburg, while the Panthers end their season with an impressive 15-3 mark.

Tufts Stays Alive at NCAA Softball Championship with 4-0 Victory Over Texas-Tyler
MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Making a name for themselves and the New England Region at the 2009 NCAA Softball Championships, the Tufts University Jumbos are now one of the final four teams playing after a solid 4-0 victory over the University of Texas at Tyler in an elimination game at Montclair State University on Sunday afternoon. The Jumbos (44-2) will get right back at it on Sunday night at 7:30 pm in another elimination game against Gustavus Adolphus. The winner will move on to the loser's bracket final to be played on Monday at noon.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Middlebury shaved 27 strokes of its score on day two of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The Panthers shot a 302 on their final day at the event, finishing in 29th place as the top teams advance to the final rounds on Friday and Saturday.

2009 Baseball All-Conference Teams Announced
HADLEY, Mass. Trinity senior catcher Sean Killeen (Greenfield, Mass.) has been named the 2009 NESCAC Player of the Year, as determined by the conference coaches. Killeen was part of a Bantams squad that went 12-0 in East Division play for the second-straight year and captured the 2009 NESCAC Baseball Championship this past weekend, the programs third league title. He is the fourth Trinity player to receive the conferences top honor this decade, joining Brian Powell (2000), Kurt Piantek (2003), and Jeff Natale (2005).

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Middlebury shot a 329 on day one at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The Panthers are tied 35th place after day one, as they prepare for day two of the tourney on Thursday. After the first round of competition, Methodist University leads the 36-team field with a score of 279 (-9) on the Ryder Course.

Middlebury Picks Up 13-5 Victory at Wesleyan in NCAA Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Middlebury (15-2) advanced to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2005 after a 13-5 win at Wesleyan (15-4) in an quarterfinal match-up here Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers will travel to Cortland (17-2), a 6-5 winner over Western New England, for a semifinal game on Sunday, May 17. The winner of that game advances to the national title game in Foxboro, Mass., Sunday, May 24 against the winner of the Gettysburg-Stevenson semifinal.

Killeen's Grand Slam Gives Trinity 2009 Baseball Championship
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Sophomore reliever Connor OSullivan Pierce pitched out of a bases loaded jam one half inning after senior Sean Killeen hit a go ahead grand slam, as Trinity College (29-5) overcame eight errors to defeat Tufts University (19-19) 7-3 Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Bantams claimed their second consecutive NESCAC Championship and became the first school to win three titles overall.

Tufts Earns 15-9 Win in Resumed Game Five of Baseball Championship
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. The Williams College Ephs (25-12) and the Tufts University Jumbos (19-18) resumed Game 5 of the 2009 NESCAC Baseball Championship Sunday morning in the top of the seventh inning with one out, resulting in a 15-9 Tufts victory. With the win, the Jumbos eliminate Williams from the tournament and earn the chance to challenge the defending NESCAC Champion Trinity Bantams, who they will have to defeat twice to take the trophy.

Amherst Rallies Past Johns Hopkins 6-3 in NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament
AMHERST, Mass. The Amherst College mens tennis team rallied against Johns Hopkins University this afternoon to emerge with a rare 6-3 win in the NCAA Tournaments Third Round. The Lord Jeffs fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, before rallying to sit tied at 3-3 midway through singles action. After taking a 4-3 lead, Amherst sophomore Priit Gross (Tartu, Estonia) and senior Zack Lerner (Scarsdale, N.Y.) each completed three-set comeback wins at the same time to give the Jeffs the 6-3 victory.

Middlebury Takes Skidmore 5-0 in NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Middlebury has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals after a 5-0 win over Skidmore in an NCAA Regional match-up on campus. Williams Men & Women Earn 2009 Rowing Crowns
HADLEY, Mass. - Due to high winds at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Rowing Championship at Cooper River in Camden County, N.J., the remaining races on Sunday, May 10 were cancelled prior to the completion of the varsity eight races. Because of this, the 2009 NESCAC Rowing Champions were determined by the New England Rowing Championship (NERC) results that occurred at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., on May 2, with the Williams men's & women's rowing team earning the conference championship.

HADLEY, Mass. Senior midfielder Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) of Middlebury has been selected by the conference coaches as the 2009 NESCAC Player of the Year. It is the second year in a row that Stone has earned the leagues top honor, as he helped the Panthers to an 8-1 mark in conference play and a 13-2 overall record heading into this weekends NCAA Tournament action. Stone is the second individual this decade to be selected as Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons, joining Bryan Griffin of Tufts who accomplished the feat in 2003-04.

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Williams College men's and women's teams won the 2009 NESCAC Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field hosted by Connecticut College. The Eph men (158.50) out-distanced themselves from second place Bates by 42 points, while the women (180) bested second-place Middlebury (156). Tufts finished in third on both the men's and women's side.

MacDermott Promoted to Men's Rowing Head Coach at Trinity
HARTFORD, Conn. Trinity College has hired Kevin MacDermott (West Hartford, Conn.) to succeed Larry Gluckman, who announced his retirement in the winter, as head coach of the Bantam mens rowing team. MacDermott takes over a squad that recorded a 42-4 varsity-eight record in Gluckmans first five seasons with two Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational gold medals and one ECAC silver medal, three gold medals at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the last four New England Rowing Championship titles and the last four NESCAC Championship crowns.

Amherst's Plumer Named AHCA Coach of the Year
GLOUCESTER, Mass. - Jim Plumer, who led Amherst College to the school's first Womens NCAA Division III Ice Hockey Championship, has been voted by his peers as the Division III Womens Ice Hockey Coach of the Year for the 2008-2009 season. The Jeffs went 24-5-0, defeating the three schools who had won all seven previous NCAA Division III Ice Hockey titles en route to this year's honors.

LEWISTON, Maine - Bates College interim head rowing coach Peter Steenstra has been named head rowing coach at Bates, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Friday. Amherst Wins 2009 NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Title
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Amherst won its first NCAA Womens Hockey Championship with a 4-3 overtime victory over Elmira in the title game played in Middlebury Colleges Kenyon Arena. Kate Dennett scored the game-winner 12:22 into the overtime to lift the Jeffs to the victory. After her first shot was saved driving in on the left wing, Dennett poked in the rebound as it lie just infront of Elmira goaltender Allison Cubberley. Amherst ends its championship season with a record of 24-5, while Elmira falls to 24-5-1.

Middlebury Tops Wis.-River Falls in Overtime in NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Third Place Game
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Middlebury earned its 20th win of the season as the Panthers picked up a 3-2 overtime victory over Wisconsin-River Falls in the NCAA third place game played on campus. With just 12 seconds left in overtime, Heidi Woodworth sent a puck in from the right point, that was deflected in by Grace Waters for the game-winner. Middlebury now has 14 straight seasons with 19 or more victories. The Panthers end the year with a 20-4-4 mark, while the Falcons finish at 20-7-3.

Amherst's Thurston Earns 800th Career Win
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. Amherst College baseball head coach Bill Thurston became the 12th coach in Division III history to record 800 career wins, as the Lord Jeffs earned a 15-8 victory over Bowdoin College in game two of a doubleheader at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. As head coach of the Amherst baseball program since 1966, Thurston is the winningest coach in any sport in school history. Currently in his 44th season with the Lord Jeffs, Thurston has posted a career record of 800-460-12 (.634), which includes 35 winning seasons and 21 seasons of at least 20 victories.

GLOUCESTER, Mass. - Senior defenseman Jeff Landers of Amherst College has been chosen by the nation's coaches as the 2009 winner of the Sid Watson Award Award, symbolic of the nation's best Division III men's hockey player. The 6-0, 205-pound native of Hanover, Mass., helped the Lord Jeffs to a 22-5-1 record, best in school history, and the NESCAC championship. AMHERST, Mass. The Amherst College womens basketball team earned a 68-54 win over Brandeis University in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round Saturday evening in LeFrak Gymnasium to punch a ticket to the programs first semifinal appearance. The Lord Jeffs (29-2) will travel to Holland, Mich., to take on either Illinois-Wesleyan or Washington-Saint Louis on Friday, Mar. 20 at Hope Colleges DeVos Fieldhouse. The Judges outstanding season comes to a close at 20-8.

Amherst Reaches NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Semifinals with 4-1 Win

Amherst College used a four-goal second period to earn the programs first win over Plattsburgh St. as the Lord Jeffs advanced to the NCAA Womens Ice Hockey Tournament semifinals with a 4-1 victory at Orr Rink. Winter All-Academic Team Announced
HADLEY, Mass. - The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its 2008-09 Winter All-Academic selections on Friday, with 451 student-athletes that participated in a winter sport earning All-Academic recognition. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution.

Wesleyan's McKenna Tabbed as Assistant Coach for 2009 IIHF World Women's Championship
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dave Flint, the head women's ice hockey coach at Northeastern University, and Jodi McKenna, the head women's ice hockey coach at Wesleyan University, have been named as assistant coaches for the U.S. Women's National Team at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women's Championship, set for April 4-12 in Hameenlinna, Finland.

Winter All-Sportsmanship Selections Released
HADLEY, Mass. - The New England Small College Athletic Conference has announced the Winter All-Sportsmanship Team for each winter sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.

Hungerford Steps Down as Connecticut College Women's Basketball Head Coach
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College womens basketball coach Laura Hungerford is stepping down after eight seasons with the program. Hungerford will relinquish her duties as basketball coach effective July 1. She will remain on staff as an instructor and administrator in the physical education department for the 2009-2010 year.

Trinity's Mwaturura Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity senior Christine Mwaturura (Helensvale, Zimbabwe) has been awarded a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship as part of the Fall 2008 recipients. An All-American, Mwaturura earned All-NESCAC First Team and Fall All-Academichonors in 2008. She is the only NESCAC student-athlete from the fall to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and one of two Division III field hockey players.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. Bridgewater States Stace Garrick hit two clutch three-pointers in the final 37 seconds of the game to lift the Bears to a 78-76 victory over Middlebury in a sold-out Pepin Gym (1,200). Bridgewater (22-6) earns its school-record 22nd win of the season and third NCAA Tournament victory, as they advance to the NCAA sectionals next weekend. Amherst Wins First-Ever NESCAC Men's Ice Hockey Crown
AMHERST, Mass. Top-seeded Amherst College played host to No. 2 Middlebury College this evening in the 2009 NESCAC Championship title game held at Orr Rink. Amherst never trailed during the game, and put in an empty-net score in the final minutes to win their first NESCAC Championship, 5-2. The Lord Jeffs take the NESCACs automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Tournament, while Middlebury will await the release of the bracket tomorrow to see if they will receive an at-large bid.

Amherst Rolls Past Emmanuel 76-37 in NCAA Women's Basketball Second Round
AMHERST, Mass. The Amherst College womens basketball team earned a 76-37 win over Emmanuel College Saturday evening in LeFrak Gymnasium in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lord Jeffs improve to 27-2 on the year, while the Saints impressive season comes to a close at 22-8. The Lord Jeffs advance to the Round of 16 for the second consecutive year, while their next opponent, game time and game location have yet to be determined. In last years Round of 16, Amherst suffered a 68-63 loss to DePauw University, marking the best finish in program history (27-3).

Muhlenberg Knocks Bowdoin Out of NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, 58-57
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Muhlenberg College women's basketball team held off a furious last-minute rally by Bowdoin to take a 58-57 win in an NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round game on Saturday evening at Morrell Gymnasium. The loss is the first ever in NCAA or NESCAC Tournament play at home for Bowdoin, who finishes their season with a record of 24-5. BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) women's basketball team erased a 12-point deficit in the second half to earn a 57-55 victory over Tufts in the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday night at Moravian College. TCNJ (25-4) moves on to the NCAA "Sweet 16" next weekend, where they will face the University of Rochester at a site to be determined. Senior 6'3" center Hillary Klimowicz led the Lions over the Jumbos with 28 points. Tufts' season is over with a 22-5 record.

The Amherst College mens basketball team made a valiant comeback Friday night against Gwynedd-Mercy College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, but the Griffins held on to defeat the Lord Jeffs, 68-62. HADLEY, Mass. - Amherst senior defenseman Jeff Landers (Hanover, Mass.) has been selected as the 2009 NESCAC Player of the Year, as determined by the conference coaches. Landers torrid scoring pace over the second half of the season helped the Lord Jeffs finish atop the NESCAC standings this year, as his team captured the top seed in the 2009 NESCAC Mens Ice Hockey Championship for the first time in tournament history. Landers is the second Lord Jeff to earn the conferences top honor this decade after fellow blue liner Jim Smith came away with the award in 2001.

Women's Ice Hockey All-NESCAC Teams Named
HADLEY, Mass. - Hamilton sophomore forward Stephanie Miguel (Maple, Ontario) and Amherst junior goaltender Krystyn Elek (Summerville, S.C.) were chosen as the 2009 NESCAC Co-Players of the Year, as determined by the conference coaches. Miguel led the NESCAC in overall scoring this season, while Elek backstopped the two-time defending NESCAC Womens Ice Hockey Champion Jeffs to a sterling 16-0-0 league record, the second time in conference history that a team has won all 16 games. They are the first individuals from their respective institutions to garner Player of the Year.

Amherst's Tropiano Named USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year
NEW ORLEANS, La. Amherst College senior Elise Tropiano has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Womens NCAA Division III Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year, the Association announced on Thursday, Feb. 26. Tropiano was the top finisher at the 2008 NESCAC Championship and was the runner-up at the NCAA meet last fall.

Williams Claims Seventh-Straight Men's Swimming & Diving Championship
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - After carrying a tenuous 52.5-point lead into the final day of the three-day 2009 NESCAC Mens Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Wesleyan University, Williams rolled away with its seventh consecutive team crown and eighth overall in the nine-year history of the event. Williams outpointed second place Tufts by a whopping 185 points over the final seven events completed Sunday to collect 1,775.5 points in total. Tufts, with 1538 points, was runner-up for the third time in the last four years. Amherst placed third with 1,364 points.

The top-seeded Amherst College womens ice hockey team used seven unanswered goals to cruise to a 7-1 victory over eighth-seeded Hamilton College in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 NESCAC Championship. The Lord Jeffs (20-4-0, 16-0-0 NESCAC) will host the semifinal and final rounds next weekend, while the Continentals end their season at 9-14-2 (3-11-2 NESCAC).

HADLEY, Mass. - Trinity College senior Gustav Detter (Malmoe, Sweden) has been selected by the conference coaches as the 2009 NESCAC Player of the Year. Detter and the rest of the Bantams came away with the 2009 NESCAC Mens Squash Championship earlier this month along with recently capturing their 11th-straight Potter Trophy in the College Squash Association (CSA) National Championship.

Junior Baset Chaudhry (Lahore, Pakistan) scored nine straight points to overcome a 5-0 deficit and win the fifth game of the clinching match to lead Trinity to a 5-4 victory over Princeton in the finals of the College Squash Association (CSA) National Championship (Potter Trophy) Finals this afternoon at Jadwin Courts. Williams Wins 2009 Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

MEDFORD, Mass. - Four Jumbos scored in double figures Tufts advanced to the semi-final round of the 2009 NESCAC Women's Basketball Championship with a 71-57 victory against Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Cousens Gymnasium. Williams' Szawlowski Named All-American by AFCA
WACO, Texas - Williams senior offensive tackle John Szawlowski (Hatfield, Mass.) had earned All-America honors by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), it was announced on Wednesday. Szawlowski is the only NESCAC player to receive All-America recognition this season. He is the first Eph since LB Graham Goldwasser in 2003 to garner All-America.

President Schapiro of Williams to Lead Northwestern University
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Williams College President Morton Owen Schapiro announced Tuesday that he will become president of Northwestern University beginning Sept. 1, 2009. Pres. Schapiro began his tenure as president of Williams on July 1, 2000 after serving as a member of the Williams faculty from 1980 to 1991. He is also a member of the NCAA Division III Presidents Council.

HARTFORD, Conn. Trinity College senior captain QB Eric McGrath (Lynn, Mass.) has been selected as the 2008 Boston Globe Gold Helmet Player of the Year for NCAA Divisions II/III. McGrath will be honored by the New England Football Writers Association at their annual banquet on Thursday, Dec. 11 at Casa Di Fior in Wilmington, Mass. He is the first Bantam football player to be so honored since former NFL quarterback Joe Shield in 1984.

GREENSBORO, N.C - The freight train that the Williams College womens soccer team had resembled over the last four months finally hit the end of the line Friday night as the Ephs were defeated for the first time in 2008 by defending national champion Wheaton (Ill.) College, 3-1, at McPherson Stadium at Bryan Park in an NCAA Tournament national semifinal. Williams finished its season 19-1-1. Wheaton (22-3-2) advances to play Messiah Saturday in the national championship game Saturday at 5 p.m.

Middlebury's Aldrich Named Women's Cross Country National Coach of the Year
NEW ORLEANS - Middleburys Terry Aldrich was named the womens USTFCCCA Division III Cross Country Coach of the Year following the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships. Aldrich led his Panthers to their fifth NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship with a convincing victory at Hanover College. Middlebury finished with 179 team points, 50-points better than the runner-up.

Hamilton's Kosgei Named USTFCCCA Athlete of the Year
HANOVER, Ind. Hamiltons Peter Kosgei was named the mens USTFCCCA Division III Cross Country Athlete of the Year following his individual championship performance on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Championships in Hanover, Ind. HANOVER, Ind. - The Middlebury College women's cross country team won its fifth NCAA title with a convincing victory at the championship meet. The Panthers ended the race with 179 points, 59 points ahead of second-place Calvin (237). Williams (240), Wartburg (284) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (310) rounded out the top five. Hamilton junior Peter Kosgei (Kapsabet, Kenya) took the men's individual title, completing the 8-kilometer race in a course-record-setting time of 24:22.03.

HADLEY, Mass. - The NESCAC announced its 2008 Fall All-Academic selections today, with 374 student-athletes that participated in a fall sport earning All-Academic recognition. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. HADLEY, Mass. - Trinity seniors Eric McGrath (Lynn, Mass.) and Tyler Berry (East Lyme, Conn.) have been named the 2008 NESCAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, as determined by the conference coaches. McGrath is the first Bantam to earn Offensive honors since Tom Pierandi did so in 2003, while Berry is the third Trinity player in the past five years to claim the conferences Defensive award. The duo helped the Bantams to their 11th perfect season in program history along with their fifth league title in the past seven seasons.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Middlebury sophomore Courtney Mazzei (Larkin Valley, Calif.) fired a one-over round of 72 on Sunday to lead the Panthers to the 2008 NESCAC Women's Golf Tournament title at the Taconic Golf Course in Williamstown, Mass. The NESCAC Women's Golf Tournament is a one-day event held in conjunction with the Williams Fall Classic. It is the first NESCAC tournament title for Middlebury, as Williams had won the previous two events.

Ogrodnik Retires as Trinity Men's Basketball Head Coach
HARTFORD, Conn. Stanley Ogrodnik (Tolland, Conn.), the most successful coach in Trinity College basketball history, has announced his retirement, effective immediately, as head coach of the Bantams mens basketball team. As head coach for 27 seasons, Ogrodnik compiled a 478-186 record that gives him one of the top 30 winning percentages (.720) among NCAA Division III coaches. His remarkable tenure includes seven NCAA Tournament bids (including last season), four ECAC Division III New England titles, and eight consecutive appearances in the NESCAC Championship.

NESCAC Swimming Teams Raise Money for Swim Across America
HADLEY, Mass. For the third year in a row, over 50 student-athletes, coaches and alumni of NESCAC swimming programs participated in Swim Across America (SAA) during the summer of 2008 in an effort to raise money for cancer research. A total of eight NESCAC teams took part in an ocean-mile swim at two SAA events and combined to raise over $42,000.

HADLEY, Mass. - Trinity junior Reid Longley (Atlanta, Ga.) has been named the 2008 NESCAC Player of the Year. It is the second time in his career that Longley has earned the conferences top honor, after he claimed Player and Rookie of the Year accolades in 2006. Longley finished atop the field at the NESCAC Golf Championship Qualifier this past weekend at Middlebury with a two-day total of 141 (-1). He is the fourth-straight Trinity linksman to receive NESCAC Player of the Year honors.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College won the 2008 NESCAC Golf Championship Qualifier on Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The Panthers shot a two-day total of 593 and have earned the right to host the spring championship, which will take place on Saturday & Sunday, April 25-26, 2009. Trinity came in second behind Middlebury, shaving one stroke off the day one deficit with a 594. Hamilton placed third (606) and Williams rounded out the top four (611).

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Connecticut College mens basketball alumnus Charles Stone 08 of Hackensack, N.J. has signed a professional contract with the SISU-Elite team in Copenhagen, Denmark. Stone completed his collegiate career in fourth place on the Camel all-time scoring list with 1,380 points. He pulled down 719 rebounds and dished out 276 assists.

Lessig has compiled a 264-227-39 (.534) in his 37 years at the helm of the Camel mens soccer program. The 264 wins rank fourth among active NCAA Division III coaches in the New England region.

Amherst's Everden Wins 500th Career Match

Amherst College head volleyball coach Sue Everden joined the elite 500-win club today, as the Lord Jeffs cruised to a trio of 3-0 victories at the Roger Williams Invitational to kick off the 2008 season. Everden is one of only 22 womens volleyball coaches in Division III history to reach the 500-win mark, and is the first NESCAC coach to reach the milestone.

Former Middlebury Football Player Hauschka Signs with Baltimore Ravens
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Former Middlebury College kicker Steve Hauschka 07 has signed an NFL contract with the Baltimore Ravens. After an impressive pre-season camp with the Minnesota Vikings, Hauschka was placed on waivers by the Vikings, with the team hoping to sign him to the practice squad. The Ravens stepped in and claimed the Middlebury grad off waivers, and are hoping for him to take on the teams kickoff duties to start the season.

NESCAC SAAC Teams Up to Help Jimmy Fund
HADLEY, Mass. The NESCAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) teamed up with the Jimmy Fund to raise money for cancer research during the spring of 2008. The student-athlete advisory committee at each NESCAC institution joined together for Cashing In Against Cancer by collecting loose change in support of the Jimmy Fund. The project netted a total gift of just over $4,200 for cancer research.

Amherst Men's Basketball Class of 2008 Members Sign Professional Contracts in Germany
AMHERST, Mass. - The Amherst Men's Basketball class of 2008 went 111-12 in four years, won the programs first national championship in 2007 and made three consecutive Final Four appearances. Just three months after graduating, Andrew Olson 08, Kevin Hopkins 08, Fletcher Walters 08, Matt Goldsmith 08 and Brandon Jones 08 have all signed contracts to play professional basketball in Germany.

Flynn Returns as Bates Golf Head Coach
LEWISTON, Maine Bates College has named Bob Flynn as head coach of the men's and women's golf team, replacing Peter Lasagna, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced Friday. Flynn, a longtime head and assistant coach at Bates in golf, Nordic skiing and baseball, previously was Bates' head golf coach from 1990 to 2000. He shared head coach duties with Lasagna in 1999 and has remained with the team as an assistant coach since 2000. Flynn will continue as an assistant coach with the Bates Nordic skiing and baseball teams.

Bates Alum Byrnes Helps Team Canada Win Gold in Rowing at Olympics
BEIXIAOYING TOWN, China - Bates College graduate Andrew Byrnes and the Canada men's eight captured the gold medal on Sunday at the Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park, Canada's first medal in the event since 1992. Byrnes, a Toronto native and resident who graduated from Bates in 2005, becomes the first former Bates athlete to earn an Olympic medal, while he and his crewmates become the first world champion crew to follow up with Olympic gold in 35 years.

Hamilton Names Bazin as Men's Ice Hockey Head Coach
CLINTON, N.Y. - Norm Bazin, formerly an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Colorado College, has been named the head men's ice hockey coach at Hamilton College. Bazin has been at Colorado College since 2000. Bazin replaces veteran Hamilton head coach Phil Grady, who retired in 2008 after posting a record of 304-260-34 with 18 postseason appearances in 24 seasons.

LEWISTON, Maine Former Bates assistant coach Peter Steenstra has been appointed interim head rowing coach at Bates College for the 2008-09 academic year, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Monday. Steenstra served as Bates' assistant rowing coach during the 2007-08 academic year under former head coach Andrew Carter, whose resignation was announced Wednesday.

Carter Steps Down as Bates Rowing Head Coach
LEWISTON, Maine Bates College head rowing coach Andrew Carter has resigned effective July 31, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Wednesday. Carter became Bates head coach in 2000, shortly after rowing was first established as a varsity sport in 2000. Carter led the Bates womens rowing team to its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Womens Rowing Championships in May 2008.

Maker Named Men's Basketball Head Coach at Williams
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. Williams Athletic Director Harry Sheehy announced on Tuesday that Mike Maker, a 20-year coaching veteran with 17 years experience at the Division I, and currently an assistant at Creighton, has been named head coach of the Ephs' men's basketball team. Maker replaces Williams alum Dave Paulsen who left in May to become the head coach at Bucknell.

Trinity's Miner Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
HARTFORD, Conn. Former Trinity womens cross country and indoor and outdoor captain Kristina Miner (Suffield, Conn.) has been selected as a 2008 NCAA Spring Postgraduate Scholarship winner. Miner, who was recently named the Colleges Trinity Club of Hartford Award winner as the Trinitys senior female athlete of the year, graduated from Trinity this past May. Miner was also named to the 2007-08 NESCAC Fall, Winter, and Spring All-Academic Teams. Miner is the only NESCAC student-athlete to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in the 2007-08 academic year.
