Thompson Named Head Baseball Coach at Bates
LEWISTON, Maine Edwin Thompson, a former Division I and professional baseball player from Maine, has been named head baseball coach at Bates College, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Wednesday. A native of Jay, Maine, Thompson, age 28, most recently served as associate head baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of MaineFarmington. Thompson succeeds Craig Vandersea, who resigned in June.

Bates Appoints Steenstra as Interim Rowing Coach
LEWISTON, Maine Former Bates assistant coach Peter Steenstra has been appointed interim head rowing coach at Bates College for the 2008-09 academic year, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Monday. Steenstra served as Bates' assistant rowing coach during the 2007-08 academic year under former head coach Andrew Carter, whose resignation was announced Wednesday.

Carter Steps Down as Bates Rowing Head Coach
LEWISTON, Maine Bates College head rowing coach Andrew Carter has resigned effective July 31, Director of Athletics Kevin McHugh announced on Wednesday. Carter became Bates head coach in 2000, shortly after rowing was first established as a varsity sport in 2000. Carter led the Bates womens rowing team to its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Womens Rowing Championships in May 2008.

Maker Named Men's Basketball Head Coach at Williams
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. Williams Athletic Director Harry Sheehy announced on Tuesday that Mike Maker, a 20-year coaching veteran with 17 years experience at the Division I, and currently an assistant at Creighton, has been named head coach of the Ephs' men's basketball team. Maker replaces Williams alum Dave Paulsen who left in May to become the head coach at Bucknell.
